USB devices preventing post and windows boot up

Thread Starter
So i had this issue with my last build.

I have quite a few USB things attached to my machine and sometimes the machine would just stop while windows bootup screen.

I just had a similar issue with my new setup. I had a new samsung external dvdwriter attached it would go past the mobo start screen and wouldnt let me go into the bios. I unplugged the writer and it went through fine.

Why does this happen?

Have you tried to set the C drive in BIOS as boot drive?

I dont quite understand what you mean.

The OS boots up but the USB device holds it up. The OS drive is set as the boot drive.

Set your boot priority to the OS drive.

Again, it is.

Even when at windows bootup, some USB devices have stopped windows from loading. I had this issue with my old machine, i unplugged the usbs from my machine and it booted fine.

Yesterday I had a new external dvdwriter connected to the computer and it wouldnt go past the boot screen, wouldnt let me enter bios or anyhting as soon as I unplugged the dvdwriter it went through to boot windows.

Why does this happen?

My board will also fail to boot if I have my external USB Harddrive plugged in.

I can live with it - I only use it occasionally for backups.

Not sure even which motherboard has problem.

Try update the BIOS to the latest, see if it fixes it.

My bios is up to date.

It just seems like one of those things, it happened to me on my old machine and now when I connect the external writer.

Was trying to understand whether this is a common problem and whether its a major (underlying) problem.

So by responses I can assume its just one of those things and not a motherboard fault...

Is it the primary drive though? I'm pretty sure I thought it was a good idea to have usb as my first boot device until I started leaving my phone plugged in to charge from usb. I would check your boot order which I think Ken is referring to. GLHF.
