Need help choosing mechanical keyboard!

Hey guys I am looking for some advice on these mechanical keyboards: Blackwidow Ultimate, Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth, Corsair K90

Right now I am using a Logitech G15 and TBH it feels awful. I used to have a Saitek Eclipse and I liked that one pretty good. I have never used a mechanical keyboard. My usage is going to be mostly typing, but I also want it to hold its own in the occasional game of Battlefield 3.(I don't play RPG/MMO/etc.) Which one of those would you guys recommend? If I go for the K90 am I going to despise the reds for typing?(I am a programmer, so I type a lot) Then again I also haft to ask myself am I going to despise the Blues in Battlefield 3? Is the 2KRO on the regular Ultimate going to be a limiting factor? Is the MX Brown Stealth what I am looking for? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately the town I live in does not have a Best Buy or anything like that, so I can't try the switches out in person. mad.gif (We only have Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, and Staples as far as electronics go.) This decision is driving me crazy because nobody can agree on what switch they like best! Oh and one last important question. Does anybody know how the noise of an MX Blue compares to the Logitech G15.(The G15 is a fairly noisy keyboard) I love the sound of the blues, but I am worried about just how loud exactly is loud. I have seen them described as REALLY loud and that kind of worries me lol.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

First of all welcome to the world of mechanical keyboards biggrin.gif Soon you will be delving into different types of switches and experimenting with them. Anyways.... back to business. I would recommend you look into MX Brown switches. Reason behind it is, they are great all around switches. In the middle between blues and blacks. Excellent for gaming (fps in your case) and very good for typing. They are not as loud as the blues (some would disagree) but that all depends on you. Unfortunately the only mechanical keyboards that Best Buy has are the Razer Blackwidows of whom you can choose the black or blue switches. They also come in backlit or non backlit if that is something you wish.

You can also look at the Ducky Shine which was just released. Great mechanical keyboard and comes in variety of switches. What is your budget by the way?

I haven't seen any keyboards out of my budget. On the other hand I am kind of picky about the looks lol. I have seen the Ducky Shine, but it is just too plain for my taste. Also backlighting is a must. I will not be buying at Best Buy. We do not have any of those around here. I will probably buy on Amazon. I am indeed considering the Browns. The only thing is I actually like the sound of the Blues as long as it is not too terribly loud. Also I think I would like the tactical click feel of the Blues. Then again since I can't try them I am not sure. Also, since I can't hear them in person, I can only got an idea of the tone of the Blues and not how many decibels they actually are. If only I could find a place to try them out I got solve this dilemma in 2 seconds lol. frown.gif The Blackwidow has a Brown version that I can get from their website. It has the plus side of having a higher KRO, but I am not really sure if that is going to matter that much. How close do the Browns come to the Blues for typing? Because like I say I will probably spend more time typing on this keyboard than gaming. (On the other hand I don't want to be hindered when I game) *Bangs head on desk repeatedly*

If you must have backlighting you limit your choices substantially.

IIRC, the Blackwidow Ultimate has its "gaming area" made so it isn't 2KRO. My cousin owns one and told me that he is able to get more than 2KRO on the WASD area. Honestly, the 2KRO is hardly noticeable unless you are a super fast typist.

The only difference between blue and brown switches is the sound. If you can touch type, just going right past the activation point, the browns are considerably softer than blues. If you tend to bottom out, it will probably make no difference between the sounds of the switches.

I am heavily leaning towards the Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth Edition. It is back ordered right now though. mad.gif I wish there was another place to get it other than straight from Razer. I wonder why they chose to sell it only on their store?

If backlighting is a must, then Razer Blackwidow, Deck Legend, X-Armor (not manufactured anymore and don't recommend them), and Ducky Shine are your options. I myself have the Deck Legend Ice and I am VERY satisfied with it. NKRO through my PS/2 port, very nice backlighting and MX Clear switches (which are just a tad stiffer than brown) not to mention the build quality on a Deck is next to none. If you have a Micro Center nearby, they have some Rosewill keyboards as well as Thermaltake and Razer mechanicals. Go give them a try.

I have to disagree with you on that one.

wait what? Blues are WAY easier to activate than the browns and less stiffer. They also produce a bigger tactile feed than the browns. And the browns are in no way softer than the blues. Do you even own any type of mechanical keyboard? And 2KRO is VERY noticeable, try crouching, walking forward, and switching between a gun all simultaneously which happens very often in the world of FPS. Go reread the mechanical keyboard guide again I would suggest.

Well once it goes back in stock get ready to pay a hefty price for them. I was actually going to get that keyboard until I realized that the final price was somewhere around $175 including shipping. I opted out to get a Ducky Shine instead (which was about $30 or so cheaper) and have not regretted it one bit.
