Complete Budget Build Help for cousin ~$800

Thread Starter
My cousin wants to get into PC gaming.

He is looking at roughly $800 but will probably need a complete system Tower, Keyboard, Monitor, Mouse.

The monitor keyboard and mouse is what is making this somewhat difficult

I was going to go with a 960T for bang for the buck, but an intel build would be better for reasons we can't talk about on this forum (i'll just say it has to do with an Apple).
The previous issue also means that a gigabyte board would probably be best.

Normally here is where I would grab a sandybridge i3, but a review showing a 2500k vs 2500K (with two cores disabled, which would roughly equate to an i3, i think?) showed a 2x FPS increase (running on an SLI 560ti's from 66 average with 2 cores to 113 average with 4 cores)

So what can we do here? I'm thinking he doesn't really need SLI/CFX support I was looking at getting him a 6950 since it is a solid card and can run most everything at high. Please use BF3 as the standard for performance since that is probably the most demanding game he will play.

*edit* any good i3 vs i5 reviews showing gaming performance differences (like I said BF3 setting the bar since I know he will want it and it does make use of multiple cores)

I've been trying but, I would say its about impossible with the need of a monitor, keyboard and mouse. People are saying quad core would be best for BF3.

What would be your best guess, say forget keyboard and mouse it doesn't have to be 800 exactly, but as close as possible.

So i reread your post, i didn't understand it fully sorry about that. but here is a build that comes out to about 817$. Here you have a i5 2500k best processor for bang for the buck, 6850 which is probably the best at this point. if he wants to get into gaming that is, a hard core gamer needs a 6950 trust me on that one because I'm running dual core Pentium with a 5830 and i can run battlefield on high. This all includes mouse keyboard and monitor, you can choose a different mouse and keyboard in the price range to. I just picked those out quick. lemme know
