Weird issue with MSI Afterburner turning down fan speed?

So I play Battlefield 3 and after awhile my game locks up and when I do the Ctrl+Alt+Delete to end the process, I notice that MSI Afterburner has turned down my fan speed from around 3400rpm to 1,110 rpm, I'm wondering if this is why BF3 is locking up on me due to the GPU not able to keep up with the heat at that fan level?

The GPU is a single MSI Lighting XT 3GB bought brand new and works great other than this problem.

The time between the lock up varies by alot.

Here's a snapshot I took after it locked up and I opened up Afterburner to see that the fan speed as always is way down, and you can clearly see that my custom fan speed is at 80%.

Not sure if this is due to a BF3 issue or a MSI Afterburner issue? I checked MSI's website for an update and it seems I have the latest build. And I'm also caught up on the updates for BF3.

The game crashed because your GPU OC is not stable, then the Fan will revert to low.

Hm..I was afraid of that. Lowered Core down to 941 and Shader down to 1882. Gonna try that..

Have you done any actual stability testing or are you just assuming that 970MHz at 1.1v should be stable? If you have done some stability testing it was inadequate. Download Unigine Heaven and lower your clock to 900Mhz at 1.1v and start there. Run Heaven for 15-20 minutes before increasing your clocks by 10MHz.
