7, and Schmuckley i have no problem going with ur build; although can u guys list some reasons why u seem to dislike the fx-4100 so much lol XD

The Fx4100 is more or less a dual core with "better" hyper threading. It also has a lower IPC than the older phenom II line of CPU's which means if both are at the same clock speed the FX will fall behind. The 960T is a true four core CPU that has a chance to unlock into a true six core.

Here's a conclusion to a very recent gaming review focused on CPU performance.

700

a 955 can outpace the 4100 in nearly all tests when it comes to gaming.

this is a 980 Phenom II (3.7ghz) against a FX 8150 for comparison

Take the clock speeds of the 4100 beyond 4.5Ghz, well beyond where Phenom IIs will go, and you will find gaming performance between the two to be near-equivalent.

The 4100 is extremely competitive at its price range, catching up and overtaking an i3 2100 in single-threaded tasks when overclocked while providing a ~33%+ multithreaded performance benefit (you can expect multithreaded performance to be below Phenom II x4 but that's all due to the nature of the design) - all while consuming less power than its Phenom II predecessor.

The 980 BE in that test is 3.7Ghz and close to its average peak OC area of 4-4.3Ghz.  The 8150 is at 3.6Ghz has headroom well into the 4.5-5Ghz.  They are already performing relatively equally in gaming tasks, or redundantly well (i.e. into the 50-60FPS and over). Take both processors up there (noting that the FX has way more headroom), then can you compare them at all?

i was using the 980 as a avg Phenom II OC of a 955 and 965 without change of voltage mostly redface.gif

Thread Starter
hey guys, thanks for all the help/replies. just a few questions left:

Which processor/mobo combo will give me the most bang for the buck?
1.fx-4100/(insert mobo)
2.i3-2100/(insert mobo)
3. phenom x4 965/(insert mobo)

Can someone explain what single-threaded tasks and multi-threaded tasks are and what they have to do with gaming in bf3?
