Minecraft Dedicated Server..

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
Basically, I want to convert my EXISTING minecraft server, that is on a windows box, over to linux. It runs bukkit, worldedit/guard etc.

Any thorough tutorials on how to do this? Also, any web panels to assist on its management? I'd also ideally like to run TS3 on the same box.

Its very easy. Install Java on the Linux box, move the files over via FTP, create a bash script to start it and then open a screen session and run smile.gif
Heres my server start script:
Code:
#!/bin/bash

java -Xincgc -Xms1024M -Xmx1122M -jar bukkit.jar

What linux os are you going to use? You cold put it in the inittab to run when you get to run levels 345, or if it's a newer distro, then make an upstart script for the same effect.

Arch Linux has an AUR script that installs bukkit, and sets up all the daemon scripts so you can have it starting on boot (if you want).

Well, here's what I want to do in a more elaborate explanation:

I have a Windows VPS that I want to convert to a linux VPS. What I want to do is convert my existing windows Teamspeak 3 install (channels, virtual servers etc) to the linux version, as well as my existing minecraft server (w/bukkit and all plugins).

I also want to make them autostart on boot:)

I was HOPING to use MineOS CRUX, as it comes with a nifty web panel for Minecraft...but I'm open to the best suggestions possible:D

I like Debian (just my preference). You can get wrappers to have the same abilities as MineOS's web panel

For someone who doesn't know how to use Linux, it would be difficult to emulate the web panel found in MineOS. However, if you use bukkit, there are a few options for you. First, there is this however if you want something a little more polished, try getting into the closed beta of SpaceBukkit. I don't know of MineOS supports bukkit, I don't think it does. Also, I have no idea how you would set up the teamspeak server. Since it is based off tiny core linux, I don't expect the package management to be very good either.

Most Linux administrators ssh into their servers to access them. You can do it by plugging in a monitor to it, but you'll still have to know how to manage the terminal.
