i know u both have your personal experience but can u guys explain me y my dad has a GA-Z68XP-UD5 i have never used it much but i have never had any problems with it
the main reason i recommended him the GeneZ/Gen3 is
  • firstly the 7970 and the other 79xx series until now all work on PCIe Gen3
  • the motherboard is focused mainly on the gaming and Enthusiasts and OverClocking classes of people
  • that board has a Onboard Xi-Fi which is found on almost all ROG series motherboard this is the main reason he/She save the 85$ he/she is going to spend on the sound card

as for the SSD i know the M4 is a better option if the OP does not mind replacing had SSD with a M4 then thumb.gif but for that budget i think its the best the SSD is just a the OS for storage the optical HDD is fine

wouldnt hurt to get a 1+ tb 7200 rpm hdd with your budget, some form of usb storage, fan controller (scythe kaze), gaming mousepad (steelseries hd) if any of these sounds like things you want.
also switch to nvidia biggrin.gif but srsly switch to nvidia. >:O

I have a Logitech G9X, Steelseries Qck+, and Patriot 16GB Xporter XT Rage. In terms of Nvidia graphics, I would like to, so I guess I'll wait for Kepler.

also you could SLI some better graphics cards like gtx570s or something
get a blue ray reader
do you need a 3d monitor? the money you save could go towards 2 monitors

Look above. And as far as I know, 7970>>570. And don't want to do SLI/CrossFire yet...
I also definitely don't need Blu-Ray, and the monitor I selected was because it's one of the best for gaming for now, afaik. If you know any better, let me know. And I don't need two monitors--again, I'm only in a college dorm room. It's gonna suck when I have to move out tongue.gif

i have added 2 23.5" full HD monitors which support 3D so basically is about 47" inch screen
a dual 7970 and a low powered 1600Mhz 8GB G.Skill Sniper
You still have a 100$ in hand u can go for anything you like headphone,Webcam keyboard and mouse, etc
and to run this system u need to go at least 4.5Ghz+ on Your 2500k. i dont know u priority to other thing like headphones or the webcam, etc if u have them in ur priority then remove one of the 7970 and a add a Sapphire 7950 for around $450 or a MSI 7950 for $460 u will have a few dollar to spend on the other thing thumb.gif
Hope that helped thumb.gif

I have incorporated some of your suggestions, and again, I don't want SLI for now, and definitely not two monitors. Why did you downgrade the case? And would liquid cooling fit in the HAF 912/932? I'm now thinking of the HAF X...And I definitely want to buy the things in my "misc" list.

Didn't see where I posted "latest BUILD" in the OP...and I will defintely buy from NewEgg, ONLY if the tax doesn't bankrupt me. What is the advantage for NewEgg other than cost, or maybe RMA? If the cost is cheaper on Amazon, I might just have to order from there. But again, tell me if I'm wrong. thumb.gif

To OP: A new hardware cycle is close to coming out now. I would wait for that. Ivy Bridge and Kepler.

I guess I will wait for Kepler then. And maybe Ivy Bridge, but seeing how the 3930K isn't that much more in performance than the 2700K, I'll just wait for Kepler, in the end. And I don't want to wait till Q3 for all this tongue.gif

Here's what I put together:

build.png

That has 2 7950s and a very nice case (you don't want to put a nice build like that in a cheap case, it ruins the whole thing). Please don't get a HAF X, it's pretty much pure plastic and feels cheap, there are much better cases available around that price point.

Then I'd get a Dell U2412 or these 2 24" Dell monitors.

Any one of these brands will be fine: ASUS, MSI, EVGA, XFX. biggrin.gif My experience with Diamond is that they don't provide much updates for their products. frown.gif

As long as you get the one with the reference cooler design... proven to keep heat under control while doing CrossfireX compared to the fancy cooling designs. specool.gif

Also, SSDs from Intel and Kingston HyperX SATA3 are great!!! thumbsupsmiley.png

If you are waiting until late April-May anyway, there's no doubt you should wait for Ivy and a Z77 mobo. Only thing to watch for is how well Ivy OCs in real world testing. Right now, rumors are all over the place as to how it will OC. On LN2, it OCs like a beast, but air is an unknown right now. Heat is rumored to be a real issue when OCing it, so we all have to wait and see just how it turns out once released.
