Hope your right.. Because the limit with track ir now is the less than 90degree rotation 1/1 ratio.. which is perfect with the sony head set.

I do hope the Kinect can do trackir smooth head tracking for full rotation.

From one of the previous articles on the subject, this one is not subsidised by the licensing of xbox 360 games. So you have to pay the whole cost of the hardware because MS can't expect any other revenue after you have it.

Also, it supports near detection or something, but I'm not sure if that would account for much of the price.

from some guy on amazon

"This unit costs $100 more than the previous version for two reasons. Firstly, this version of the Kinect includes a 'near' mode. This Kinect is sensitive to movement as close as 40cm away were as the previous Kinect required you to be at least a few meters away. Secondly, the XBOX version is slightly less expensive, because they figure they will make up the difference in price with increased game sales and XBOX LIVE subscriptions."

hm well I'll just wait for the academic deal.

So if this is being released now with SDK there isn't much of a reason for an end user who only intends to use it, not create software for it, to buy it right. I should wait for companies to come up with software to actually implement it. The way it reads not even windows can be manipulated with it right now.

Having played around with the xbox 360 one and the open source drivers it could be fun.
Only thing thats let me down so far is slow devolopment and having to be 1M away before it picks you up.
