Sub $300 Build - Page 2

Sure-- An i3 Sandy would be better,
but it's a free* mobo with the FX-4100 (and good prices all around).
That makes for a good bang for your buck.
Also, the FX do OC fairly well, which can help compensate. wink.gif

At that price your build looks great. The only recommendation I'd make is to get a higher quality power supply. Cooler Master is not known for making quality power supplies. Something like an Antec Neo Eco 400W would be better since it's a rebadged Seasonic. Newegg sometimes has deals on it and a short time ago it was pretty cheap during a Shellshocker deal.

Truthfully I was considering losing the dvd drive to cut costs right now but I need to be able to burn videos to make money. I have a friend that's a video dj and he gets music videos on disk thru a service and I combine 20 or so disks onto 1 disk for him to make it easier. Can always upgrade ram later and rarely have a use for 4gb of ram let alone 8gb.

Actually, it takes a higher clock to even match the Phenom II X4 in most cases.

I've seen the displeasure some owner's have had.
Some also have the humble view of things, and feel it does what they need.

Yea I hate buying cheap power supplies but I've used the 400w elite in a few builds and been pretty happy with it, found this review on it:

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-Elite-Power-400-W-Power-Supply-Review/975/7

Will most likely only be using this rig for about 3 months til I can get back on my feet and build me a nice i5 2500k rig. I'd like to try and get the cost down to $200 but I shopped online and cannot even come close to this rig for this cheap.

I don't think you can push that far of an overclock with that board though.Maybe 4-4.2Ghz territory.I have no experience with it personally but usually boards at that price point aren't the best overclockers but if it can then that'll be something.

no..but fx4100 is wayyy slower clock for clock
i'm not a folder..but have had both chips..and the celeron is MUCH snappier

OK..fx4100 is the worst chip i've ever had..netburst is snappier..p4 Northwood

..unless you want to count 4x86 p75 ..and for it's day..i could OC it it and beat pentium 200s tongue.gif

scratch that..cyrix 133 is the worst..fx4100 is second

I've read all the reviews when BD came out and there is obviously lower IPC then with Phenom but it's not that drastic. Was going to build around a phenom ii x2 560 but they've been out of stock for a while at microcenter. I'd say a fx 4100 at 4.2ghz > Phenom II x4 at 4ghz in most cases though.
