Need helping deciding on components to build PC for live streaming xbox footage in HD

Thread Starter
I'm helping a friend build a PC. The budget is the least amount it takes meet his needs. The main thing he needs is a build that will allow him to easily live stream xbox 360 footage in HD. I know nothing about streaming xbox 360 footage. He mentioned needing Blackmagic Intensity Pro or something similar. I'm completely open to any suggestions:

ALREADY OWNS
Monitor
Keyboard/Mouse
AMD Athlon X3 455
ATI Radeon 4250 HD
4GB Ram
250GB Hard Drive
1.5TB External Hard Drive
HTPC Case (very small, probably needs more room)

I have no clue what he needs to meet his needs. If those items will meet his needs that is fine, but I don't want the system to struggle performing tasks. Any guidance?

He's going to need a Video capture card that can capture in HD.

This is a good place to start looking... of course you can compare pricing on various other sites as well, but those are the general models that are out there right now for the task. That CPU and setup should be enough for 30fps recording which is all you'll be able to stream at anyways.

I wnet to aver media as i knew they had a cheaper version of the black magic. Anyway i found this:
http://www.avermedia-usa.com/AVerTV/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=503

The more you can spend on the processor the better tbh. If you can stretch to a quad core even better. Maybe a small ssd. I have a friend who streams mincraft from the same computer, in HD with an i5 2500k.

Aprently it's easy to set up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=c49bi-jRaOM

But you just need to be able run recording software and have the bandwidth to stream it.

The system requirement for that card is: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
For SD Video Capturing (MPEG-2 Format)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor E4300 1.8GGHz
AMD Athlon™ 64x2 Dual Core 2.0GHz
For HD Video Real-time Capturing (MPEG-2 Format)
Intel® Core2 Duo 2.4GHz
AMD Athlon™ 64x2 Dual Core 2.8GHz
For HD Video Real-time Capturing (H.264 Format)
Intel® Core™ i5 750 or AMD equivalent
VGA card with support for DirectX 9.0c or above*
512 MB RAM**
PCI-E Slot
Sound Card
Windows® 7/ Vista™/ XP (32/64-Bit)
* Standalone graphics card is recommended for HD video capturing.
** 2GB RAM is recommended for HD video capturing.

Use those as a guide. Try to go a bit beyond that for better results.

For capturing in HD you need either a blackmagic or HD-PVR (two best ones)

Blackmagic is much better quality but the file sizes are much larger. However once uploaded to YouTube you cant tell the difference. Also the Blackmagic uses HDMI and the PVR uses component cables.

His current rig will be fine for a HD-PVR but as BritishBob said you might need to stretch to a quad core for a blackmagic. smile.gif

I'm not sure about his case but a Black magic is about the size of a sound card so I doubt he will have any problems.
