Thanks! Though I think progress has been slower than I'd hoped. I have got most of the fans reassembled and have been testing them the last few days, to make sure performance isn't affected with the painting. Will be able to get pics of them later on.

Right! Looks like Vortex is the most favoured name for the build by far. This is lucky as I was torn between it and Aurora. I'll leave the poll running until this Sunday, just to see if thee's any last minute votes, but for now, we have a winner in Vortex!

In build related news, I'm currently taking my time with repainting the SSD covers, the motherboard blanking plate, and several other small bits. After taking off the first paint attempt, there was some noticeable scratches on almost all of the pieces. A few basecoats with some 1200grit sanding in between and they're now looking ready for another attempt, wish me luck!

I've also decided to use a modified version of CM's Storm insignia for my build's logo. I think it goes well with the current lead name.

Here's the original CM Storm logo:

186

I'm aiming to change it enough to make it substantially different to the original, while still keeping the same basic shape. I've also decided to spray a scaled down version on the SSD cover side that'll be viewable from the side window.

Never thought to paint a SSD.

Would be to worried about it dying and RMAing it but yours being a M4 you should be sound biggrin.gif

Voted vortex and after it refreshed it was like oh ok everyone has voted for it tongue.gif

Its one of those words that sounds powerful.

I did think about that (RMA's), but I've had the SSD's for a few months now, with absolutely no problems, so I figure they're not going to suddenly die on me (here's hoping).

I didn't plan on it at first, but then thoguht what the hay, why not? It's different at the very least thumb.gif

Small update with pics of some repainted SSD panels! Work on the build has been put on a backburner for a while, since I have a heavy load of university work to be doing at the moment.

These are the rear-facing panels for both SSD's. There's still the faint remains of some scratches on them, but since these will be facing the inside of the case, they won't be seen through the window. Note that this is before a final coat of white and the last coat of clear. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Here are the finished look of two of my fans, the 120mm being the slimline fan for my side panel, and the other being one of the two 140mm Cougar top exhaust fans. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I've only got the two fans shown in the 2nd pic rebuilt at the moment. There's no overly loud odd noises from either of them (there are some, though it could just be due to me forgetting to use oil on the 120mm fan when rebuilding it - will take it apart again to do that).

Also, the noises present are only audible with my ear almost pressed against them while on the highest rpm setting, so I'm not too worried about it right now smile.gif

Edit:
Since there probability of a big turnaround in the naming being near enough nil, I'm gonna go ahead and close it down now, a big thanks to everyone who voted, and with 66% of the votes we have a winner in Vortex!

Hi all!

This is just another little update, to reassure everyone I've not forgotten about the build log.

After a bit of trouble at university, with stress and such getting the better of me for a while, I'm quite behind in my university work at the moment, so thathas to take priority for the moment (this is really just a continuation of my reference to uni work a few posts back, just revealing the reason behind it now).

Anyway, I'm not going to put this build on hold as I enjoy working on it far to much to temporarily stop work on it. So, I am going to be working on it here and there, small updates mostly.

I do feel like I should apologise for this, first build log being and it's affected by health bothers.

At the moment, I'm working on several things;
  • Gently sanding down and repainting a fan that got into a bit of a mess during original painting session (my rear exhaust fan)
  • Drawing out a build logo using the CM Storm's logo as a reference point.
  • Priming and then painting some other small parts of the case.

Now, I'm deliberately leaving the list vague to try to inspire a bit of suspense, I feel this thread becoming somewhat of a ghost town, I'd love more than anything the chance to open up a dialogue with either existing subscribers, or people just reading through, to share ideas, comments, or anything at all on the build!

ooh, me, me, I'm subscribed. Hah. Looking good so far, even without much updates. biggrin.gif

I have one suggestion for the thread. One thing I always look for in other logs that have more than 10 pages is a table of contents. lol. It makes it much easier for new readers to see what's been done on the build. And it'll encourage new readers to read through the log, because they can skip all/most of the chatter in the log. thumb.gif Making one would be easy at this stage having just 5 pages. tongue.gif

GL with your health, school, and the build! thumb.gif
