WD20EARS alternatives? 2-3TB, low noise

Hi guys,

I am looking for a very quiet 2 x HDD's in RAID1 and found that WD20EARS suits my needs

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1127-page4.html

12.8db at idle is what I am looking for.

However, Greens ending with EARS, EARX seem to have horrible lifespan

Although they seem to have somewhat fixed this?

anyone else tried using these in an array , should I have tried applying the Jumper ? WD have not been helpfull ... their reply was these are not raid capable drives ...

Are there any alternatives without sacrificing noise?

Think I will go with EcoGreen F2, RAID 1 or Hitachi Deskstar 5K3000

im surprised at the rate of WD cavier blacks, i have 7 1TB blacks in RAID 1 and JOBD and run 24/7 fine.. even look at WD blue drives as well..
but onething you must note: RAID is not a true back up system, its more like a redunadancy system hence the term Redundant Array of Inderpendent Disks... to have a true back up system, make sure to abck up any RAID array to an extranl source thumb.gif

It's 2TB's model that is very unreliable, I myself use 1TB and it's flawless thumb.gif

EDIT: After some research, I believe my best option is Seagate Barracuda 3TB ST3000DM001? They claim to support RAID 1, are fairly quiet and offer superb performance.

The WD25EZRSDTL and WD30EZRSDTL are the latest generation of Caviar Green harddrives.
They both have 3 platters with 1TB each, superb performance and the power consumption is the best available.
Noise should be lower than the 4th Gen Green Caviar WD20EARS HDDs.

Getting one for my HTPC, considering getting a second one.
