[El Reg] 40,000 Apple fanbois demand ethical iPhone 5 - Page 10

Wow.

Just wow.

I guess I should start by saying that we don't live in Utopia. And no matter how much one wants a perfect world, any effort will be simply be futile.

Some people will suffer, and some people will benefit from their suffering. That's how this has always works, and how it will always work. There is great wisdom to the phrase, "You can't have the cake and eat it, too." You want an iPhone that is affordable and mass-producible, but you don't want it done by Chinese factory workers, simply because their lives aren't as good as yours. And you expect a company, a business, to keep innovating with minimal investments. That's impossible.

And secondly, what is ethical? The fact of the matter is that we don't have an universal ethical code. The closest thing that gets to this is the justice system. But that's different for every nation. Please, for the love of what your deity is, stop pushing your ideals, your agenda, onto others. Because, to be quite frank, they don't matter in the slightest.

I hope Apple will keep doing what it has always done. Make money like a business is meant to do. If ethics can get more money, go for it. If lower prices can get more money, go for it. The only that matters at the end of the day is the stocks.

Vote with your wallet and sign the petition. Money talks. If you hurt iPhone sales significantly Apple with get the message.

I'm all for boycotting all products produced in Chinese slave-shops. There isn't a thing made in China that can't be made better in the U.S. that I need or want. I"m even willing to pay more for it if it's produced here in the U.S.

It's about time U.S. citizens woke up and smelled the coffee and held the greedy bastard CEOs at these companies accountable for their actions.

Although I guess the iPhone 5 will have 1GB ram, it will only be because Apps are getting heavier to run, and thus the phone need a bit more juice, but so far the iPhone's haven't needed the extra RAM.
Coming from an Android fanboy..

I think it has more to do with the multitasking aspect. I've hit 512mb a few times with my GNex.

You do realize that 29.4% of China's GDP comes from exports right? And you do realize that a country like China without exports would literally KILL its citizens, right? The jobs people get in Foxconn are better than most jobs available there.

If you stop importing from China, you will turn China into Africa, and people will be much much worse off.

Sure we might make things better, but it's also much more expensive. For some things like circuit components, the reason we don't make them here is because we economically can't. It would be far too expensive to make iPhones or TV's here.

China had better start looking out for itself and not expect the U.S. to support it's evil ways.

Wrong.

The reason U.S. companies make products in China is because CEOs get a bigger annual bonues this way - NOT because we can't make them cost effectively here in the U.S.

The reason China can make things cheaper is because they use SLAVE labor, inhumane and unsafe working environments, they fail to pay reasonable salaries and they provide no health care for their workers. If you think that's a good economic system perhaps you'd like to give it a try for yourself?

I have a novel idea:

Produce goods in the U.S. as they once were and let China improve their working conditions so their people have a decent standard of living and are not dependent on unscrupulous U.S. CEOs looking for multi-million dollar annual bonues.

What a concept!

And then what? Let all the hundreds of thousands more lives in China and their families will starve after miraculously convincing companies to take huge expenses and move shop back to the US? That is not exactly a humane option either. Also, don't be so naive. US citizens KNOW the labor that serves as a driving force behind making their pretties cheap and guess what, they don't care. As long as they can continue buying their goodies for cheap, they don't care how long a worker had to stand to assemble said goodies.

You are correct that many U.S. citizens don't care as long as it doesn't affect them. That's the problem with many people... It's all about them. They have no clue or concern about the consequences of their actions. Perhaps if they got to work as slaves for a few years they might understand?

China needs to solve it's own problems. It created them. Depending on the U.S. to carry them is foolish for both countries.
