Help with AMD Phenom II X4 970 overlock?

Hey guys,

I'm new here and to over-clocking.

I have just over-clocked my PC from 3.5Ghz to 4.025Ghz, and my PC seems to be working fine.
I managed to get it up to 4.6GHz, and it booted the BIOS, but Windows crashed.

Is there a max over-clock, or a safe level of over-clocking I should be aware of?

The default CPU frequency thing is 200Mhz (3.5Ghz), and I now have mine at 230MHz (4.025GHz) and it's running fine.
Is there a limit (e.g. 250MHz) as to how far I can put it as? The max I put it as before was 275MHz, that's when it booted to the BIOS, but not Windows.

I want to get the GHz as high as possible, whilst keeping my PC as safe as possible (obviously I'm aware of the risks, but I don't want to condemn it to doom).

Any help and/or informations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

since it's a BE just use the multiplier, as for safe levels 1.50v for 24/7 operation on Vcore 1.55v being maximum but no one really goes that far or higher unless they are doing some massive benchmarking on good cooling. you'll probably can get a good 4.2ghz maybe 4.3ghz at 1.5v possibly 1.45v or 1.47v keep the tempetures under 62c most set the limit to 55c for safer limits when they stress test it.

if it succeed at 4.1-4.3 ghz raise the northbridge to 3000mhz if you can while maintaining Stability, if 3000mhz cannot be obtained but 2800 can then that'll be good enough may need to bump the voltage tho up a notch or two. redface.gif

i've done 3.95ghz on a 955 at 1.4v's (stock it came with) and did a raise of 3000mhz NB which was pretty fast smile.gif

I've got it to 4.3GHz, by adjusting the "Overclock profile" to 10% and the multiplier to 19.5 (3900Mhz I think)... And it works fine... I don't know how to change voltage or anything else...

Mind running me through it, where is the voltage found etc?

Also, is there a program that tests system stability?

It will help to know your system specs - particularly the RAM.  Remember, raising the bus c lock ALSO raises NB clock, HT clock, RAM clock.  I would recommend taking advantage of "black edition" and working on the multipliers from a set bus clock value that allows the RAM to work at a stable frequency (i.e. rated frequency) and timings.

When you say that your system is runing fine... how do you know?

you should heat test / stress test it with Prime 95 or something alike.

If it can stay on during a 24 hour stress test with prime95 you can name it stabile! smile.gif

remember to watch the temperatures, keep it under 55 as most people say;)
