AthlonXP 2600+ Overclocking

Thread Starter
So, I posted here a couple weeks ago about my underclocking problem. Turns out that I didn't have enough thermal compound on my cpu, so now I'm running at stock speed again. Now, I just want to overclock my cpu, preferrably to 2.3Ghz (11.5x200). When I set the FSB at 200, it boots, but flashes a blue screen during the windows boot and restarts. I tried to increase the voltage, but seeing as how my BIOS only allows you to increase via percentages of 6, 12, and 18, I'm not sure what to do. Here are my specs:

Abit NF7-S2G
(BIOS rev. 15)
AthlonXP 2600+ 1.95GHz
(locked multiplier x11.5)
Thermalright SLK-900A
512MB DDR400 RAM
(2x Buffalo 256MB, CL2.5, NonECC, Unbuffered, Dual Channel)
ATI Radeon X700 Pro
350W Antec PSU

For a 400mhz overclock u will need about 10% vcore increase. 12% might push the temps a bit too far... so if the temps are ok then go for it.

I tried to increase the vcore by 12% after the comp failed to boot at 6%... My computer is running stably now at stock speed (11.5x166) with the ram running at a 1:1 with the FSB... not sure exactly why the computer doesn't boot at 200mhz... At +6% to the vcore, it doesnt even finish loading windows and at +12%, the computer just shows the bsod and begins a dump right after windows finishes loading... and the temperature doesn't seem to be spiking. Any suggestions?

Not all chips are capable of running at 200fsb no matter what the vcore is set too. Best thing to do is to work your way slowly upwards testing for stability at each stage and find the limit that way rather than just jumping straight up to 200Mhz. Its a slow and painfull process but its the best way.

Sometimes it also helps "burn in" the overclock. I tried going from 200 to 225 in one step and it just wouldnt work so i went up in 1mhz stages testing for stability with occt each time. Got to 225Mhz at same settings and its been fine ever since!!!

Patience is the key

See if you can run it at 2.2 so 11x200 then up the fsb till it wont boot, what are your memory timmings and index value, on my 2600 I have the ram running at 133mhz @ 2.2.2.6

And if all fails then you will need to set a divider of say 5:6

A divider on socket A is a really bad idea as it reduces performance considerably.

He cant do 200x11 as its a locked chip he has!!

Umm, I remember someone saying that I shouldn't have much of a problem getting to 200x11.5 without very many problems even if it is locked at 11.5...

Socket A cpu's are not locked down only up so if his stock is 11.5 he can do 11, infact all amd's are able to lower their multi's and raise them if their unlocked or high end

Have you set your ram to 333 (166mhz)? Because if you have it at 400 (200mhz) now, and raise FSB you will overclock your memory and it might not boot at stock timings.

My ram is set at a 1:1 ratio with my FSB, so if i set the fsb to 166, the ram is running at 166. And so if I set my FSB at 200, the ram shouldn't be overclocked considering it's rated at 400...
