They are being produced because there's a demand for them.

The 5th wire in the SATA power specification that sets it apart from the usual molex peripheral connectors, is +3.3V.

In reality though, very little, if anything, uses the supplied 3.3V, opting instead to derive lower voltages from the +5V or +12V lines.

Both optical drives and SSD's work fine from 4 wire molex to sata cables, and having 1 less wire makes it look a tad cleaner most of the time as well.

well... maybe I have got a strange uncommon optical drive then but it defenitily does not work with one of those cables smile.gif

...it's a very old one aswell, maybe thats why?

Or the cable has a defective crimp that's not making contact . . . .

Did you try the cable to see if it powered a different device satisfactorily?

No and don't think that I still have it. If I still should have it I would not know where to find it rolleyes.gif
I just tried it out a long time ago and I don't even remember why, because I have had free sata-contact on my PSU at all time. So it was not important to me. I was only thinking: What the hell is this kind of adapter for if it does not work?^^
I thought it would be like these molex to PCIe adapters, coming often with graphics cards, which even when needed should not be used on a powerful card because then it would be time for new PSU. Not everything which is beeing sold makes sence to buy biggrin.gif

Hey everyone, I'm having a weird issue with an NZXT sleeved LED kit. I didn't want to make a new thread about it in hopes that someone could help me here. I installed everything the way it's supposed to be installed and I get no power to the LED strip. I thought it may be the molex connector so I cut it off and used a new one, no such luck. I decided to try a 9v battery since I have no real testing equipment and it powered up just fine. I'm having a really hard tome understanding how an item that's made for a 12vpower source won't power up with 12v but will power up with 9v. Can someone possibly shed some light on this for me?

Edit: It's not the PSU, I had my fan controller on the same connection and it was working perfectly.

i was wondering, could the 810 be modded easily so it could fit 180mm fans on the roof? would it fit 3 of them? from the dimensions i can find it *should* fit

I don't have the time right now to take a measure because I have to drive to work in a couple of minutes but I can do that later when I'm back smile.gif
I guess you could fit in two 180mm fans but technically it wouldn't make sence anyway because the the edges of the fans would be covered by the top bezzel. A third 180mm fan would probably crash with the I/O frontpanel, the powerswitch and the HDD-LED plus the half of it would be covered if you don't go for really serious modding. For to keep the airflow straight I recommend to use 140mm fans as the the case is made for those and provides the needed space and mounts wink.gif
But I will take a measure for you in a couple of hours and then we can see clearly thumb.gif
