It's only looked down upon because it increases the likelihood of air not being able to escape the pump. If the pump had all air removed before being oriented that way then it's fine.

Is it safe for me to have already put on the waterblock and PK1 paste even if I won't be done building for another week or two? Should I just remove it for now and install that just as I'm finishing up? The computer is in the garage where I'm soon the build, so it may get a little chilly I don't know if the paste is alright to leave on there without use for a bit

Shouldn't be a problem at all, I'm not expert on thermal pastes but I can't see why it would cause any issues. Unless that's some kind of special high sensitivity paste you got there?

alright, thanks biggrin.gif

getting so close I can feel it thumb.gif

Just some more angled fittings on the way and cutting tube, then the fun stuff (cable management tongue.gif)

I'm hoping that someone might be able to take a ruler out for me, so that I can make sure that I'm not going to screw something up before I get started.... smile.gif

So, end game is to mount a Swiftech MCP35x2 (w/hacked Koolance PMP-400 heat sinks) in the case, in between a lower 240mm rad in push/pull and the middle HDD bay.

Now, the rad + fans equal out to 110mm, and the Swiftech + heat sinks are (about) 55mm. So, first question:

  • How much vertical room exists between the top radiator fan (again, assuming push/pull with a 60mm rad - total 110mm) and the bottom of the HDD cage?

At the end of the day, I'd like to have the top inlet port of the MCP35x2 hanging to the left of the HDD (see awesome drawing below)

Second Question:

  • How the hell can I hang this thing here? Should I attach an Acrylic sheet where the lower HDD cage was, and screw in an (UN)Designs Z2/Z3 bracket, and then mount the Swiftech to that?

Option 2, could I mount the Z3 bracket to the bottom of the top 140mm intake holes (this still requires that there's enough room with the radiator and fans) ? Obviously, this means that I need to use the front intake port of the MCP35x2, which I know results in a little worse flow (according to Martin..)

Awesome MS Paint Mockup here:

480

(Note: This isn't my rig - I stole the image as it was a good representative of what I want/need to do)

[edit] If the ultimate answer becomes "you won't be able to do this with a 240 rad", I'm ok with that. I think I'll have enough cooling with a 360 up top and a 120/140 at the bottom, given the plan is 1 GPU (690), CPU, and an Aquaero.

Thanks very much!

Ooooooooooh, refurb deals! wubsmiley.gif

White

Shipping puts a dent in the savings, but still pretty nice.

Do our friendly neighborhood NZXT reps know what "refurb" entails in this situation?

Hey guys, got my Switch 810 over the weekend and got her all setup, really loving the fact that I've got two rads in there now! Theres so much room in here lol

Couple things I don't like, one the roof, that sliding bit that opens and closes the vents I really don't like, have to put a lot of force into it and quite frankly I feel like I'm about to break it! Second is the fans, I find them quite noisy, thinking about getting a new Fan Controller and running them off it, anyone know if they get a lot quiter or have any weird quirks at lower RPM?

Yeah, the fans are pretty loud. I have 8 FN-140s in mine with the NZXT sentry 5 channel fan controller. I have 5 of them set on low. The other three are connected to the multi fan port that came with the case and they are pretty loud. The fan port that came with the case is crap. I can only get 3 of them to work, thats why I had to get a fan controller. Also, every now and then when I power up my system, one of the fan starts to rattle and I have to tap it to silence it.

I'm switching to watercooling with different fans now

I have 4 of the stock fans running, 3 in the front, 1 on the rear. I've also got 3 Yate Loons on my RX rad in the roof, and two 1200XSPC fans on my RX in the bottom, those 5 are on a Lamptron FC6, I've got two channels left on it, maybe I should try connect the front 3 fans to it see how it goes, can always get an extension cable to the rear fan can reach, because as you say the fan port that came with it really is ****e, should have been some level of fan control on it. I actually bought this case thinking it did lol should be more careful in future lol
