Then a whole other bunch of issues started, it's all the drivers. They are nothing short of rubbish. I switched from offical drivers to modded drivers by PAX and they solved all of my problems and also tweaked the sound of the drivers. Sounds a lot better too.
Check them out:

Selling mine and trying to decide if I should upgrade to the ASUS ROG Sound Card or the newer Sound Blaster Recon 3D card.

are they the titanium pcie drivers? (non HD version)
that's what I'm guessing?
thanks, ill give it a try

PAX mod all sound blaster drivers and they fix all the common problems like the one you described. Just google it or search and you'll find all the infomation and specific drivers for your card.

Sound Blaster are seriously the worst when it comes to drivers, never update them or fix anything, ever.

Hopefully it fixes your problem.

I have always wondered, is a sound card necessary? I have Asus z77 sabertooth. Is the build in sound card good enough?

alright i tried paxmod. it's saying that I have no supported devices when I try to open the applications it installed, but I still get audio. the front panel headphone no longer works, but the headphone/mic jack on my logitech speaker control pod does, so I think it's fine for now I'll fiddle with it later

Soooo.. Got my NZXT Switch 810 in to use today as I had some free time to work on it.

The case is just awesome!!! Plenty of room to mount hardware in, very transformable (HDD cages), lots of cable management holes in ideal locations thumb.gif (thanks NZXT) and the 3pin fan splitter on the back is just an amazing thought for a case that can have so many fans installed inside (thank NZXT again wink.gif).

Liked a lot that NZXT provided the owner with additional 6-32 *28 mm screws that you will need in case you want to mount the second front fan. Unforchantly my Xigmatek XLF fans need a little (about a 1 mm) long screws. Reed the spoiler below...
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Here is the original NZXT fan next to my purchased Xigmatek one:

400

As you can see they bought 2.5cm thick but the Xigmatek fan have this plastic bulge around the screw hole which makes him a little more thicker so the screw can not reach the carving on the case.

200

Here is the comparison of two of the fans with the screw inserted. You can see that in case with the Xigmatek fan, you left with a really tiny tip of the screw which is definitely not enough for fan mounting.

Awesome case! Worth the payment! Very happy with the purchase! biggrin.gif

If you're running spdif or toslink out there is virtually no difference. A lot of boards have DTS connect or Dolby Digital Live too (pretty much any board you're putting in a Switch 810 will have one of those two standards too as anything from middle of the road on up does).

With analog jacks, the signal to noise ratio is going to be better with a dedicated sound card. That will most likely show up as a slightly louder sound with less interference. It might sound cleaner too and have better DACs. Mobo manufacturers never tell you what the onboard stuff does though so it's hard to say. It's certainly a lot less important than it used to be, and I'd say unless you have a really good pair of headphones or you're hooking up to a receiver with a really good pair of speakers, most people probably couldn't tell that much of a difference.

This is a good question. I think I will hook up my amp to the analog outs on my mobo instead of via the HDMI on my GTX 560 TI. I might even try the DTS connect the motherboard has too just to be thorough. If it helps though, two boards ago when I got a motherboard that did DD Live, I haven't used a discrete sound card ever since, I've been using the onboard on the mobo until I got my GTX 560 with HDMI.

I think that's what I'll do in the end. Only now I realized that it will also be a problem when I will get to install my rad.. redface.gif
