I am not really concerned about power consumption or heat as whichever one I get is going under water as soon as it comes out the box. Like I said I'll be pulling the trigger in about an hour. I am sorta pushing towards the MSI 7970 but would like to get a few more opinions before I do. And the 670 FTW might be available might not. Thanks for any help thumb.gif

I personally would go with either 7970, whichever is cheaper and has a better warranty. I know if you remove the cooler on the MSI and it goes bad it will still be under warranty (obviously there can't be any physical damage). I am not sure if overclocking is covered by them as well.

My reasoning: I don't like the short PCB of the 670, that is just my opinion. I also don't see the point in getting a custom air cooler if I am just going to remove it and put on a water block. For performance it is a bit of a toss up, assuming you are gaming, both beat each other in different games, so there isn't really a clear winner between them.

Also another thing to take into consideration is what resolution you will be playing at now and in the future. If you start going into the multi-monitor the 7970 will be better.

Hope I helped some.

Edit: I have the MSI 7970 and I do have coil whine, but it isn't noticeable compared to the fans on the radiator. I have also heard that it goes away after voltage increases or time. Just figured it might affect your decision.

Forgive me if you have already answered this question but what do you plan to do with all those cards. I have the 690 which technically is a 680 SLI, benefits, cost less compared to 2 680s and runs cooler than my 570. (running vf3 at ultra, FPS capped at 60, cards do not go over 50 on stock air cooler, and only 40% of each core gets used.)

Anyways I did read somewhere that you are planning multiple monitors and for that ATI is better than Nvidia.

with that said, I would take the any 600 series card as they are really really awesome when it comes to power and heat. - Just my 2 cents.

Don't think it can get better than that.

PS - Lil update on my build, I have started sleeving the case cables, first time sleeving any thing and so far I will say the first few cables were not easy but then I started to get going. Practiced with some old cables laying around before I screwed something.

Once I settled on the concept of making the external rads into a completely self contained cooling system, I was contemplating what to house the dual bay res, fan controller, flowmeter display, rad fan rpm display, PSU, and tertiary pump in. I was thinking along the lines of someting like an external optical drive housing for multiple drives.
Trying to find one turned up buttkiss, so I was thinking I could make something along those lines from acrylic that would look nice.
Then it came to me, someone has already done that for me, in the form of the clear PC case.
It's longer from front to back than I need, but then that's what table saws are for.
I'm going to shorten it up to 10" from front to back. I just have to cut ~8" off the top, sides, and bottom, and redrill some screw holes. Essentially, I'll be moving the back end forward about 8 1/2".
Once the case is shortened, it will sit on a base piece of thick acrylic, (about 1/2") planned dimensions are 9" wide with beveled top edges (case is 8" wide) by 29" long. The case plus the rad length is 28".
The PSU that runs everything is this one: I just turned the PCIe connectors into regular 4 pin molex for everything that needs power.

kj1060 you get a Rep+ for the help.I'm gonna go with the MSI partly because of what you and a few other people were saying about the warranty. I will be putting it under water imediately so that's a plus.

You might have me mistaken for another member cause I haven't said anything about going multi-monitor. I won't even be thinking about that for another year (after I buy my next home so I can have my own room for my rig) Like I also said in the post I'm not worried about power consumption or heat. I am going to be adding them to my existing liquid cooled loop and after GPU upgrade my next step is beefier PSU from the 750 I have currently. thumb.gif

Apologize for confusing posts. I would agree with kj1060, which ever one is cheaper and has better warranty.
