You might be happier with a 5670 if you can squeeze out the $5.

Alright the i3 it is. I'm about to buy it on Newegg, Good thing I have ShopRunner biggrin.gif

Yup its almost as good as a 955BE. Even if I don't get a GPU the Intel HD onboard is more than enough for just viewing Youtube videos for my dad. Its more likely he will mutlitaks using Excel or other programs since he won't game on this computer at all, and if he decideds to we can just add a cheap $60 GPU. If he wants.

This would be my suggestion (a palm sized-pc with a VESA mount you can attach to the back of a monitor, with a lightning fast i3-2120 3.3Ghz)

I wouldn't go with such a small build unless small size is a necessity. It just makes it harder to upgrade later.

While the AMD APU is a very good choice, your father doesn't need it. For him, CPU would be the limiting factor. Go with the SB build.

And yet x86 desktop computing is moving towards accelerated GPU computing as programs are coded for the efficiencies that GPUs provide.

There's a particular reason I will recommend the AMD APU over the Intel SB based build here and that is Excel.

Office 2010 is GPU accelerated and the extra graphics prowess of the APU should provide a large benefit there.  Web browsing is also largely GPU accelerated and this is opening up opportunities for the building of more complex, graphics-intensive sites.  CPU is hardly a limiter in any of these tasks that this build will be used for.  You could take an Athlon II x2 and have CPU performance to spare.  Start gaming or doing any intense media editing, then consider a higher CPU investment.

As far as I'm concerned, the Intel 2000 graphics are adequate. If not, a cheap $30-60 discrete card would perfectly suffice as a supplement for hardware-accelerated applications and web sites.

I think it's smarter to buy the faster processor rather than suffer with a "meh" CPU that helps with hardware acceleration. If the i3's graphics don't cut it, a cheapo $30-60 discrete GPU can always be added.
