Ign's take on Call of Duty

Thread Starter
I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm posting it here in Pc Gaming. I stumbled upon this article today which expresses IGN's view on Call Of Duty, No normally I don't like IGN because they are biased but this time around, I couldn't agree more with what they are expressing in their article.

Any thought's? Feel free to share!

http://games.ign.com/articles/121/1217539p1.html

Here's a great little insight to the article:
Quote:
Slaughtering civilians in an airport, blowing up a little girl, and setting New York City under terrorist siege aren't the moving scenes their developers intended. This is emotionally exploitative junk that tries to disgust the audience into submission rather than make them consider consequences. The imagery is horrifying, but it doesn't carry actual value. This is meaningless shock without awe undermined by the assaulting, desensitizing violence of Call of Duty's campaign.

Pretty good read.

I haven't played the latest COD but I disagree with them saying the 'set-peices' are boring

if they ever decided to 'reboot' or change the CoD system, it would never be under the CoD name. only because they would lose tons of money releasing a game called call of duty under a totally different gameplay system.

Yeah, I guess if you look at it from the business point of view, why take a risk when they break sales records each time they release a new one? Just copy and paste and that's another $1billion revenue.

They will only reboot it when it needs a reboot I guess. MW3 is the first one I haven't bought and do not intend to buy until it's around £5, and until others do the same they will still keep the receipe the same. Fair enough if that's what the people want thumb.gif

I actually find it pretty awesome for a single player game. I want it to feel like an over the top movie, an epic but short experience.

I completely agree about the over the top violence though. It adds nothing to the game and is just a cheap way of getting a reaction from the player and press coverage. I don't feel it is amazing anymore. The movement and etc are really bad.

I would be inclined to agree, when playing MW3's campaign, I thought it was extremely short. To clarify, I was playing the story and then all of a sudden within maybe 3 hours of gameplay, it was all over. I like when games have a good, solid campaign and frankly, I don't see that in any of the Call of Duty games anymore.

Its the same plane crashes as stated in the article and AC-130 bits and pieces in every game. frown.gif

Set Pieces were great but their effect died quite a while ago for me, plenty of other games have used overblown after overblown set pieces and it's not helped overall, it becomes predictable and somewhat of a bore most of the time, fair enough if people still enjoy them though smile.gif

Good article, but you do have to wonder why CoD games consistently get 9's on there...

qft.

This guy from IGN says the game sucks, basically - yet it sits on their site with a 9.0.
