New 7970, get MASSIVE stuttering - Page 5

Are you by any chance running MSI Afterburner with On-Screen-Display Server?
Uncheck the "Enable compatibility with modified Direct3D runtime libraries" in options and see if that helps.

Just uninstalled using the driver pack application, and reinstalled. As you are coming from Nvidia though and this time I was not, I would take off all ati software, delete all folders, reboot. Then search for all nvidia files/folders and delete/uninstall,reboot. Reinstall CCC and drivers, reboot.

I already did all that once, when I installed this thing. I guess I could try uninstalling the AMD and reinstalling them again. I did make 100% sure all Nvidia things were removed though before I even put this card in.

Updated the OP with a list of games that don't work for me. frown.gif

List of games confirmed not working correctly at all:

Killing Floor - Doesn't open (main screen black, secondary flashes)
GTA IV / EFLC - Stuttering
GRID - Resolution doesn't exist past 1280x1024
Bioshock - Doesn't open (crashes before first movie)
Duke Nukem Forever - same as Killing Floor
Crysis - same as Bioshock

Any help? I'm still counting too by the way. These are just the ones that I've FOUND that don't work.

I haven't seen anything where you tried running stock without the OC. I would assume you have tried that as well?

If you had a second empty hard drive laying around I would install a quick win7 installation and then install the card drivers and see if the stuttering goes away. If it does on a fresh windows installation then you know the problem is related to your current running copy of windows.

Good luck! Give me rep if it works cha cha cha

Try this, it could be those games info are still linked to previous cards and don't get reset with driver uninstall/install.

1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Click on Environment Variables.
4. Below the bottom Environment Variables window panel (System Variables), click on New.
5. For Variable Name, enter devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
6. For Variable Value, enter 1
7. Click OK to close Environment Variables and OK again to close System Properties.
8. Open Device Manager, click on View and then select Show hidden devices from the menu. You can identify the hidden devices by their grayed-out icons.
9. Go to the Display adapters and show your old cards. Right-click the selected card and choose "Uninstall" driver on every one.
10. Restart.

Make sure to install all available updates from Windows Update. Avoid AMD graphics drivers from WU. If that doesn't work uninstall those games/steams/origin then re-install.

Try this, it helped w/ my 4890 driver issues and early 5870 driver issues back in the day, lol.

1. Uninstall CCC and and all AMD drivers using the usual method

2. Reboot into safe mode

3. Run CCleaner, then the registry cleaner until there are no errors

4. Reboot

5. Install drivers

6. Reboot

7. Enjoy

Did the above two tweaks. Killing Floor now works at least. GRID still doesn't give me any resolution over 1280x1024, and the other games listed still don't work. I got GTA IV / EFLC to kind of work by forcing vsync on and a ton of command line things to limit the framerate and such. It still stutters, just not as badly.

Kind of bummed out that some of my more favorite games don't work right though.
