An HP technician's way of testing if it works...

So here is a little story for you guys.

I had HP send out a technician to repair a ProBook for one of my clients under warranty. They replaced the CPU, mainboard and the heatsinks. So basically my client got a new laptop. The problem was that it was BSOD'ing with 0x101 (familiar right? tongue.gif )

So, to cut a long story short, after he was done fitting all the new components he fired the machine up. Then he rebooted it. And then he rebooted it again. And then he said to me "if it boots three times it will work fine." And with that, he left. Of course I was like... uh what the hell! That's hardly a test. So I fired it up, logged on, and started running IBT on it. Boom, 10 seconds later the whole machine locks up and crashes with 0x101 BSOD!

What a pity I didn't do that while he was still there!
Needless to say, the machine is being taken back and money refunded.

This is very typical. Don't expect much from the technicians that get paid for each job they "get done".

I definitely understand that, they all stink.
I think what threw me off was the confidence with which he said it...

Frustrating though when the laptop had already been repaired twice before, clients start getting annoyed tongue.gif

My company has 24 hour onsite service with HP. I've dealt with HP many a times, I've seen them flex entire motherboards by overtightening the screws, I've seen them rip components out of the motherboard, which forces them to come back another day to do it all over again. Whenever they do something like this (or if they can't get parts to us next day), I'll escalate it up the chain of command, and they'll overnight me a replacement laptop.

And this is reason 0x101(00000000) why businesses should stick with Lenovo or Dell.
