as for the aquagate max, things are looking good. after the namibian disappointment i've got a positive response here. i'm just waiting on a shipping quote. hopefully it will be a done deal today or tomorrow and in the mail smile.gif
keep following my other thread. there have been more interesting developments wink.gif

Great smile.gif

if the aquagate max deal comes thru (fingers crossed - still waiting for a reply with the price) i'm going to be one drive bay short of what i need. lamptron takes 1 bay, musketeer 1 bay, aquagate 2 bays. that's all the bays i have. sadly, i've already ordered the internal blu ray drive and i can't be bothered returning it and getting an external one... besides, the external one is like twice the price... so i've spent the whole day trying to find a nice external enclosure. seems this was my lucky day, because i've found one that will match the look of my pc perfectly. and it will still be around 40$ cheaper than getting an external drive.

PS here's a nice video of that enclosure in action. fast forward to 6.06 to see it lit up

since it looks like i'm going to get the aquagate max i gave it some thought and decided to ditch the h100. while not a top notch cooling solution (remember looks are the deciding factor for me here), the aquagate max is still, imo, better than the h100 and i can always add a vga block to it, since it's a traditional wc system. it's not worth sticking to my original plan of using h100 on the cpu and aquagate max on the vga since that is considerably more expensive than adding a vga block to the aquagate. from what i understand, the pump can handle cpu and vga system. if not, i also understand that the pump can be switched with a better one, tho with considerable effort

Looks good so far. +rep for you. Oh, and if you are still thinking about the video card situation...I have two 6950's and they do work just fine, but as other people have mentioned CF does introduce some new issues like driver problems, micro-stuttering (although I don't ever notice this but many people do), as well as heat and power (heat problems are my biggest complaint actually). If I were building something right now I would do whatever I had to to get a 7970 into my build, especially if you want something that will last for 2-3 years. Just my 2 cents.

hey there. thanks for your advice wink.gif

unfortunately, the 7970 is a bit pricy for me, so i've decided on a oc'ed 7950 from sapphire.

buuut, since the video card is the most expensive single part of this build, i'll buy it last... so, that means probably 3-4 months from now. by then, prices might drop and i might stretch to cover that 7970 price. 7950 already dropped $50 on amazon since i've placed it in my basket like a month ago

man, this is going even slower than i predicted... but here is another small update

now... when i say small, i mean small with regards to the build, but for me it's HUGE! smile.gif

the aquagate is here!!! thumb.gif

450

450

i decided to skip on the rad because i planned to change it anyway and also it would have added considerably to the weight being shipped and thus to the shipping price. i think i'm going to drop the current cpu block too and get a nice copper one, since i'm getting a nice new rad too smile.gif

anyway, here's a mock-up of the front of the case so you can see how cool it looks even when it's not powered-up:

700

i had originally planned to put the aquagate in the top two bays, as you can see from the previous pictures in this thread, that show the musketeer and lamptron on the bottom. however, i didn't realize that the aquagate unit is longer than say a dvd drive. so, when i put it in the top two bays, it doesn't go all the way in, since it bangs against the second top fan. so i had to switch things around, but i think it came out great smile.gif

one more update. still not one of the major parts, but a good looking and very practical one

remember i said i've used up all my 5.25'' bays and had nowhere to put my blue ray drive (featured in a previous update smile.gif )? here's that nice external enclosure i was talking about as a solution:

Where are you going to place it? Shame that it probably won't fit on top of the case...
