New FX6100 rig overclocking assistance - Page 3

try using only the multiplier and not the fsb, cause im stable at 4ghz on stock voltage 1.25v, and i got up to 4.5ghz at 1.4v stable, so maybe just try with online the multiplier and since this cpu is unlock it ok to only use the multiplier to overclock.

Sry mate, I had no idea. Is that all FX or the 6100. I'm asking for myself (and the op of course). Cause 2300 is low and wouldn't that effect performance so if thats true then thats very disappointing smile.gif

BD does just fine with FSB oc. Mine is stable up to 275 FSB with out issue. FSB oc give a bit better performance than multi oc.
How far you will get with your CPU will depend on many factors, and it has been figured out all BD chips are not equal.
one 6100 my get 5Ghz stable another may only get 4.2Ghz.

I suggest taking fsb alone up 5Mhz at a time with stock voltage and see how far it will go. from there play with your nb, ram and htt dividers to get them with in the correct range.
At the point I knew where I was going with my cpu I then used a mix of fsb and multi to get my ram, nb, and htt where I wanted them.
I have a 1.25 vid chip and can oc to 4.2Ghz on stock voltage, take 1.45 vcore 1.48 under load for my stable 4.7Ghz.
261 fsb x 18.

I also suggest a good read through the BD thread. alot of info in there from many people. alot of us with them from oct and nov when they first came out.

AMD says that it doesn't matter because all the ref clock does is deliver the input to the multipliers. I got just about the same max CPU and RAM clocks via ref clock or multipliers.
So, use the multipliers for a rough dial in and the clock for fine tuning. Also the various clocks allow only certain multipliers so you may need both for certain combinations.
I started with multipliers but ended up with 19.5*230 at 1.41V (NH-D14 with high speed fans.)

I just ran prime95 for 1 hour. fsb at stock, multi at x21 (4.2ghz) 1.35v. max temp 66c with the Hydro H60. will have another play with the fsb later if it gives better performance, but my ram really isn't keen on it.

For RAM performance what matters is the CPU/NB clock, RAM clock, CPU/NB voltage and temps. I just improved my CPU cooling and could drive my RAMs higher, probably because the CPU stays cooler.

True, thats what I know. But there was a poster that said FX doesn't do high NB clocks , I never heard that, so is that hog wash. I've only OC PH II's..

I needed high CPUNB clock and voltage to push my RAM. Also, the L3 cache runs at CPUNB clock. NB doesn't matter to me, it only drives PCIe.

Sorry I was talking about NB frequency (or CPU/NB) i'll be clearer in future I thought you knew what I was talking about. it directly effects you memory performance. If your overclocking you need to boost this. I've been doing this for a long time. I hope we were talking about the same thing. And the poster stated FX didnt like CPU/NB which I was asking if that was hog wash.

375

Mines set at 3247 Mhz it really boosts memory performance.
