How does this compare to the P8Z68-V PRO GEN3? I've always wanted a red/black board, but also don't want to spend $300+ that they usually run

In this case the board is as good as it gets if it has the features you need.

Case is miniITX, not microATX.

LGA 1155 ? I skipped that for a MSI LGA 1366 + i7 2 years ago. (Best Buy Black Friday did an i7 + MSI 1366 Board 1066mhz for $400.)

According to the PassMark CPU Benchmark Chart it looks like the AMD FX-8120 outperforms my i7 build from this last February. (32nm cores are nice)

My friend's doing a eight core AM3+ EVO build soon - plus the AMD is $80 cheaper than the i7.

Anyways - I wish AMD didn't own ATI because Catalyst Control Center is buggier and slower than death.

Too bad LGA 2011 CPUs are still ~$500+

are you confusing yourself between LGA 1156 and LGA 1155?

LGA 1155 were introduced around a year ago Black Friday, Sandy Bridge CPUs a little more than a year ago.
Both 1156 and 1366 are "end of life" at this point, you do not Identify your 1366 chip.
Sandy Bridge outperform AMD in most cases.
Anandtech has a "Bench" comparasion feature on their home page. Enter FX-8150 vs Intel I5 2500K. Intel is better 95% of the time, the 5% is mostly ties, one win at a quick look.

For all intents and purposes the AMD Phenon II X4,X6, CPUs perform as well as the new FX chips.
The I5 2500K at $220 USA is the "best" gaming chip. The I7 2600K at $330 or 2700K offer better multitasking but no more overclocking or gaming performance.
Ivy Bridge Intel chips are due soon with a new transistor geometry and an estimated 20% performance over Sandy Bidge.

IMO at the moment there are many good 1155 motherboards available around $200 that offer anything needed for a great build. Crossfire and SLI scaling past two cards does not look worth while as single cards become more capable and change faster.

And the ANANDTECH BENCH shows the FX-8150 besting the I7 920 in most catagories.
