OC i5 750 asus p7p55d le! Not stable at 4 ghz. - Page 2

I can hit 83 on Core 1 during the IBT but I am running at 1.4v so no real surprises there. Hence why my everyday OC is 3.8. Running at 4Ghz wouldn't be noticeably different IMO anyway. I did it purely to see what my CPU could do.

ye ok, well you v got gxt 580 smile.gif
I need 4 ghz for bf3 ^^ with my 9800gtx+ , so my cpu wont be damaged with these temps during a long term?
Also my ram is at 765 mhz 9-9-9-24 1.5, how do i get it to 800?
1.35 imc 21x.191 and 1.65 v core

its at 79 -80 now should i be worried running for 20 minutes FFT ???

I settled with my Dram Frequency @ 761 in the end (near on exactly what you have so a shade under the rated 1600Mhz for my RAM).
if I were in your position I would benchmark BF3 @ 3.8Ghz and then at 4Ghz. Would be interesting to see what you actually gained. I have benched that in Heaven and the results were identical. The difference in my temps is quite substantial though. You wouldn't be running the CPU at 100% all the time so it wouldn't necessarily be a massive strain (heatwise) on the chip.
4Ghz with Lynnfield CPUs is more about an overclocking "rite of passage" then a real need to get value from the CPU. IMHO 3.8 Ghz is the sweet spot.

1.4v is probably the very highest you would want to go. Did you try isolating the RAM and CPU during your test? Significantly reduce the multiplier on the CPU and see if the ram is stable (if it's not up the IMC voltage). Then reduce the RAM multiplier and test the CPU at the target frequency (if it's not stable add to the vcore voltage... you may have to go up one or to clicks with the IMC also but not much more than your ram test).

Search the forum for an overclocking guide... i5 750 and 760 use the same process.

please stop stressing your chip with 1.65 vcore if you're really doing that...

1.45v max for vcore. And even that's usually reserved for watercooling setups.

Here check out this guide by ~sizzzle~. He is working with an i5 760 but like I said the process is the same for an i5 750 (Just as a heads up most CPUs aren't stable at those clocks on the voltages he's using... I would say he's a little lucky with his chip but it's still a good guide).

LinX & the Intel Burn Test. If I pass those I then move on to several hours of Prime95 FTT or Blend tests.
