Despite the success of Windows 7, the legacy Windows XP still rules the world.

Despite our love for Windows 7, the latest Microsoft OS still isn't the #1 platform on the market. Instead, Microsoft's opus Windows XP is still the reigning champ, claiming 47.19-percent of the market as of January 31, 2012. Strangely enough, the first month of the year actually saw a resurgence in the legacy platform, slightly higher than December 2011's 46.52-percent market share.

I'll miss windows xp frown.gif

*edit: crap, i forgot to put the source in the subject line. it's from tom's hardware frown.gif the editor wont let me go back and fix it

*edit 2: well, i figured it out, sorry!

It's the dominant OS because most if not all of the businesses and schools in the world use XP, even the military has yet to fully move over to Windows 7.

Yep, by the end of April, I will have replaced a large majority of our computers at work with new Windows 7 systems. I've gotten so used to Windows 7, it's getting harder for me to troubleshoot issues without trying to pull up a feature only available in Win 7. Seems a bit ridiculous, but when the past 3 years you've been working in Windows 7, there's just no going back.

I only know a few people that's still running XP, but that's because their either tight budgeted that they don't want to set aside money to get a new machine or they're picky because they don't want to switch, or some stupid reason like that. It's not like XP is gone. There's a reason why you can install a free virtual copy of XP in Win 7 Pro and Ultimate, cause there are just some programs or some ridiculous reason for that developer to not upgrade their coding.

true dat yo.... I hate coming across xp computers now because i feel like a dunce. It takes me a few minutes just to be able to troubleshoot the thing properly and get my bearings.

Does not surprise me. It's still in demand for industrial and embedded systems - we're shipping out 25 machines running XP this week alone.

you are a fool to be on Windows XP

LOL. XP. I don't know why but I hated it slightly less than Vista. Outside of that my only windows experiences of joy were 95 and 7. Sadly, Linux when it works out shames windows; which is 98% of the time.

Honestly...anyone on a budget has little excuse to at least not try Linux now. Even though I don't like what's happened with main branch buntu and Mint they're really just as hard as windows now barring some hardware issues. I'm still surprised MS is actually supporting XP as far as 2014! Seriously, that is just sad.

In businesses they still use XP because everybody knows how to use XP. They are trained on XP. Moving on 7 its expensive. And after all they dont play games so they dont care a lot. They will start moving on 7 little by little. I doubt they will move on 8. I think 7 will repeat the success of XP.

I feel like installing Xp 64b for fun.

We have two machines at work that don't run XP - one of our machines we use for remote work (which is on Win 7) and our boss's machine which is still on Win 2k. Seriously, it's that old.
