[Tom's Hardware] Report: Windows XP is Still The Dominant OS - Page 2

it doesn't surprise me,
it just works and there is a big cost involved in upgrading for many...

I'm using it since... 2001, I remember how nice it was at the first time, so stable compared to 98se which I was used to... but I still kept dual boot on my system until 2003 I think, and W98 although was newer than XP is now, just felt old and bad, something I rarely feel with XP now...

I have both w7 and XP now, and most of the time I just use XP,
7 is great and improved in many areas, but XP is just... good enough for most uses,

2000 assets on campus (corporate environment) are ALL still using Windows XP.

The only people using Windows 7, is us in the IT department.

Yep, this is an exact description of my campus as well.

Most people don't upgrade their OS, they get it with their PC and leave it. Since Windows 7 is "relatively" new, and many opted to skip over Windows Vista, not everyone has bought a PC within the last two years. There's the whole corporate environment which is still largely on Windows 7 (though where I work, I'm seeing more and more with Windows 7, but it's still the minority and only cropping up as they replace PCs).

That being said, I still like Windows XP. I like Windows 7 more, but I never understood this "let's hate on Windows XP because there's something better now" trendy mentality. I'm using Windows XP now (it's not my primary though) and it's fine.

Our school bought 50 new pc's with XP on them like last semester.... so stupid.
I like XP, it has a nice "touch" on older systems. But these new systems have Sandy i3's in them.
Surely they can handle windows 7 rolleyes.gif

Lol I think I prefer your school more than mine. In our school they bought the older 21 inch iMacs that take forever to load something. rolleyes.gif

My school seems to update a little too often. The Mac half of the library is all iMacs running OS X Lion; since it had just released at the beginning of last semester, I wouldn't be surprised if 20% of our computers were down on any given day. You're supposed to wait a few months until after they fix all the bugs, Mr. Administrator.

The rest of the school is mostly Windows 7 though. The only Win XP computers I can think of are in our language lab, which is basically a collection of ancient proprietary software they have never bothered to update.

Seems a bit ridiculous, but when the past 3 years you've been working in Windows 7, there's just no going back.
I only know a few people that's still running XP, but that's because their either tight budgeted that they don't want to set aside money to get a new machine or they're picky because they don't want to switch, or some stupid reason like that. It's not like XP is gone. There's a reason why you can install a free virtual copy of XP in Win 7 Pro and Ultimate, cause there are just some programs or some ridiculous reason for that developer to not upgrade their coding.

Really? thinking.gif Windows has changed so little from 95 up to 7 (at its basic core) that I don't know why troubleshooting XP is any different or harder than 7.

What features of Windows 7 differ so much from XP that you think it's harder to work on XP? thinking.gif
