DDR 2 Dual channel

Thread Starter
Ok here's a dumb question... Is it possible to use two of the exact same RAM modules of DDR 2 and duel channel them, or do you have to have a "Duel channel kit"? Please don't laugh too much... It's just something that's never come up for me b4... lol.

I think you have to have a dual channel kit.

No, it's not necessary. You may dual channel them if they are identical. I've done this before.

Theres no such thing as dual-channel RAM. All RAM is capable of running dual-channel but if the revision or model is off on 2 identical sticks that wasn't bought together then it won't run in DC mode. When you buy a "DC Kit", all it is is just 2 sticks of RAM that was built right after one another so it garentees DC because its same rev. model, etc.

I agree, my 2x1GB PQI DDR2's(bought weeks apart) were running on single channel because of noob mistake of putting them right next each other instead of putting them in the same color group which on my Asus was 2 yellow's, now when I boot up it says Dual Channel, havent noticed any difference in performance but I have yet to benchmark to see a difference.

you dont NEED a dual channel kit.
I bought 2 512mb OCZ Gold ddr2 ram sticks from 2 DIFFERENT online vendors and they work in dual channel.
