Looking for input on selecting DDR3 memory for a socket 775 mobo

Hi all. smile.gif

I'm about to get an ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe motherboard, and I'm going to need some RAM for it. I was wondering if there are any special considerations I should take into account, as this is a 775 socket board.

I'll be running it with a Q9550 from the same seller. He told me that he was running 2x4GB 1333 G Skills Ripjaws that worked fine for him.

Those look pretty slick, but I'm a little worried about the 1.5V. I believe the P5Q3 was made before 1.5V DDR3 became available. Does anyone know if they will work fine in a socket 775 board? I don't want to have to run them at 1.65V and burn them out.

How about the Kingston HyperX on today's shell shocker? They look like a steal!

im not a fan of kingston personally, but that does look like a steal.. smile.gif
people do run 1.5v ram at 1.65v but the people i know of are running it on a lga1155, there might be a deference between the chipsets that im just not seeing, IMO it should be ok.. but if you have concerns, find some 1.65v RAM like those hyperX thumb.gif

I run my 1.5 memory at 1.66 with no issues with my Q8200 in my SIG.

I had better results with tighter timings than higher speed. I am running 1480 8-8-8-21 at 3.1GHz.

To overclock mine I needed higher speed memory, 1333 would not cut it.

444 FSB is the highest I can get stable.

I am curious about what your results will be. I would love to experiment with a better quad core.

Good luck.

Thanks for sharing your experience. smile.gif

Yeah, I'm excited to give it a shot with this new board and a quad core, especially since the FSB strap on the P5Q3 is adjustable, so I shouldn't be limited to RAM speed, at least in theory.

I'm definitely going to get some 1600 RAM though. Which ones do you have?

EDIT: nevermind, I found out by following the link in your sig rig. thumb.gif
