Windows could not update the computers boot configuration.

Thread Starter
I have this sony vaio pcg 7154L Laptop, and the version of windows that came with the computer crashed and failed. It would load the bar then go to a black screen, so now im trying to reinstall a fresh copy of Vista, and once it comes to completing the installation its telling me that " windows could not update the computers boot configuration "

I dont know how to boot to a CD on this laptop without changing the bios setting to boot to the CD first, if anyone knows the button i press to boot to a CD on this laptop that would be nice, because then i dont have to change any bios settings. And i think it might fix my problem, any suggestions OCN? Youre my last hope.

It is normally one of the f* buttons to choose the boot setup. My first guess would be to try f12. (followed by f9, f8, f1).

Also I'm sure you have heard a lot of this but...I would definitely go with win7 (or even xp) over vista. But I understand that that would involve buying the license.

Hope this helps!
