BF3 @ 2560x1440. Upgrade form 470 SLI to 560ti 2GB SLI or 580 3GB

Hey Guys...... I'll be overhauling my rig this month once, the 3930k (2011) Comes Back in stock with the new revison. I'll also be getting a ASUS RIVE Mobo, Upgrading my SSD, and Probably Upgrading to a Corsair AX1200.

So....I'm a Little Stuck on What I want to do GPU Wise.

I use a Dell U2711, which is 2560x1440 Res.....I currenty have a PNY GTX 470 SLI Setup. Which has been Pretty OK..for me...

I know Vram is the Issue @ resolutions above 1080p for certain games like BF3.

So If was to sell off my 470's........I could get a Couple MSI TFIII 560Ti 2GB Cards, which would be a boost in V-Ram, but I could also get a single 580 3GB Card.... I do like SLI over a single Card. Both would cost about the same. I highly Doubt I'd ever spend another $500 another 580.

But im a little concerend about the actualy GPU Horse Power......Current have two 470's.....I'd go to two 560's or a single 580 GPU.....Isn't that a downgrade in GPU Power, even tough i have more v-ram.

I dont want to spend alot of money on upgrading the GPUS's becuase the 470's are pretty good, and I'm thinking about just Getting AXP Coolers for them and Overclocking them, and mabey wait for kepler....but I'd still be V-ram Limited.

what about a 7970 or 7950? I was thinking about going that route myself for the extra v-ram, but have been pretty happy with the 470's myself. Overclock the 7970 would feel faster then 570's in sli just because of less frame drops, stuttering and not having to deal with sli problems. A overclocked 7970 does do pretty good against a gtx590 in benchmarks in avg frames. You want at least 2gb of v-ram to avoid v-ram problems.

Though after all the BF patches its smooth as butter, and the only other game thats not smooth as butter is metro 2033. Game plays fine, though there is some stuttering at times. More v-ram would be helpful at keeping frames more constant.

Yah.......I...Kinda want to Stay with Nvidia Cards......Something I just dont like about ATI/AMD............

I think......I def. want to get something with Over 2GB of V-ram....

But The SideGrade from the 470SLI to 560Ti (2GB) wouldnt cost me much with there current Price....

.I know 1GB 560ti SLI and 470 SLI Match Stock for Stock......and 470's have some more OC Headroom, so theres no point

But....since im @ 1440p.,......and could use the extra V-ram.....Then 2GB 560ti SLI would be better that my 470 SLI???.

Lets say sellem the 470's for $180 each and Pick up MSI 2GB Card's for $250

In Terms of OC'ing and Cooling Costs

If I did keep the 470's I have to Buy Artic AXP Coolers for Each one and enzo vrm heatsinks, so thats like almost $200. Where as the MSI Cards should be just fine with the TF Coolers

If you dont have to many problems with your current setup might want to stay with it till the new nvidia cards come out and see what thats all about if nothing else current gpu prices might drop and you can get a better bang for you buck

Just lower your settings to medium high, no need to max out.. It looks almost the same anyway...

well a gtx470 = gtx560 ti 448 core clock for clock
the extra v-ram will help when you need it, but for things you don't it will be a downgrade. But less heat and less power used is always a nice thing. Though I would rethink the AMD thing. I had a 4870 CF before my 470 sli setup and did not have one problem with it. AMD drivers are not as bad as some people make them sound. Plus crossfire scales better if you plan on going dual card in the future. But gtx560ti sli will still use a lot more power and produce a lot more heat then a single 7950. A 7970 would be yield in better performance anyway.

If i was you don't go for the 560ti sli setup, just wait for new nvidia cards or jump on the amd cards.

Option 1.) Spend $200 on Artic Cooling AXP and enzno heatsinks and then OC the crap out of the 470's

Option 2.) Spend $100-$200 to go to MSI 560TI SLI's, for more V-RAM 2GB vs 1.2GB , but Lower
Processing Cores 384 vs 448 and smaller memmory interface. But I could Overclock then With the stock coolers

But I think I do agree..........The Best Solution would be to Just wait and do nothing........But that would mean wait and spend nothing on GPU's and leave my current cards stock...
