Watercooled BFG GTX 295 for for $250 each for folding?

Thread Starter
Hey, folding's rad. I'd like to do it more. I also dig somewhat obscure tech; I think a sweet watercooled GTX 295 card is great. I'm planning on buying a 7950 next week, perhaps I can use the GTX 295 for a PhysX card while I game biggrin.gif ? But of course using it for folding 24/7 otherwise. ~14K ppd on average stock from what I understand. Power usage not really an issue.

Question is..... Is it a decent buy? Something tells me it's not a bad deal.

do you already have a water cooling loop? otherwise for 250 I'd rather get a GTX480 if power isn't an issue.

I do really like the GTX 570... maybe I should wait a few weeks and see if I can get a deal on one as Kepler closes in?

I do have a Loop already. It's for my bedroom mostly HTPC part time gaming rig. I like the silence factor of a WC card. Otherwise, good suggestions as 480s are often found for a bargain if you look hard.

Sir, if I could find a 295 for $150, it would have been purchased already! Glad you had such awesome luck.

Holy moley, that puts a GTX275 at $125 each. Definitely not worth it no matter how you look. I want to also add that a GTX275 is worth around $65 in my opinion.

Well, I don't necessarily agree with that. Keep in mind, it's two cards only using 1 slot, which is all I have left on this board. I'd HAVE to buy a Waterblock for whatever card I get because noise is a huge deal in this room. The computer is 6 ft. from my head while I sleep.

Granted, after looking I was surprised to see MANY 275s selling for cheap on eBay. ~$90 inc. shipping.

I play @ 1080p on this rig. Mostly just Dead Island, Skyrim, Bastion and Minecraft. What's the best SILENT option ~$200 give or take for a combo of ppd or gaming?

Also, keep in mind... I kind of dig the 295 for it's odd-ness. I like weird. I have an extensive collection of high end AGP cards, obscure 478/775 CPUs and 771 Xeon chips. Yet, I don't want to make that affect my choice to the point in which is ridiculous.

So go Spock on me here. What's a logical alternative?

Great find!

I looked it up. This is a combo... BUT, I only have one slot to spare in this rig. That and I need it to be watercooled.

I do not have an answer for a silent $200 card. Similar to you, I like odd old stuff like a x1950XTX.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1209216/evga-295gtx-1792mb Try buying from this guy if he sells.
