new to water cooling and upgrading my loop

Thread Starter
I have found water cooling to be addictive. Currently i have the Rasa 750 RS240 kit and want to make some improvements(tubing, fittings). I was thinking of using quick disconnects for connecting my res so i can drain my loop easier by using a spare connector. male end is threaded and goes into the res and female end is compression. All other fittings are bitspower rotary compression fittings. I was planning on having them rotary so putting the loop together would be easier when i went to screw the fittings in while the tubing is connected. I hear rotary fittings can leak sometimes is this true? My other questions include tubing size. does 3/8 ID or 1/2 ID really matter, i know smaller tubing kinks less?

I'm open to any suggestions. Just making this up as I go along.

Quick disconnects are a good idea, but keep in mind, more connectors will typically add more restriction.

A fitting is always smaller than the tubing, which will alter the flow.

Also, some quick disconnects are not necessarily designed for draining the fluid.
I order to drain, you would need, for example, two female and one male.
When you disconnect the male, you need to connect an external female to allow the water to drain out.

Some rotary fittings can leak, yes.
I have yet to have a rotary bitspower fitting leak on me, despite how aggressive I am with it.
I have had Koolance fittings leak, however.

Tubing sizes vary, but the ones I've seen most are 3/8ID-1/2OD, 1/2ID-5/8OD, 1/2ID-3/4OD.

1/2ID may require stronger water pumps. Personally, I like the 1/2ID-3/4OD, although the price increase is significant from 3/8ID.

I have heard, at least 3/8ID is optimal for cooling performance.

This is what I use for draining.

I simply unplug all wires (except for pumps) from the PSU and use a jumper to run the water pumps to get most of the water out.
I don't feel a drain system is worth $60, personally. It's best to invest toward your reliable cooling performance.

You will not see any performance difference in tubing size your looking at.
