SDD & HD help

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
Before I ask my question, I just want to state that I am sure there is somewhere this has been answer however I cant seem to locate it in the forums.

I have two drives, Crucial 64G SSD and a 500G WD HD.

1 - I installed Windows to the SSD (without the 500G plugged in)

2 - Put my main applications on this drive and then plugged in the 500G

Now the 3rd step is the one I am missing, I want to install certain programs on the 500G to conserve space on my SSD.

After researching I should be able to just start the install of a program then select my 500G HD.

However it will not let me install a program on the 500G because it says it needs to be on the root of the drive?

How can I fix this because I need to put programs on the 500G to leave enough space on my SSD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What program isn't giving you the option?

Some programs need to be on the C drive in order to work - like SSDLife

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.

first would be to select custom install and replace C: with the desired drive letter...if that doesn't work you can----

The setup DVD contains a file Setup\baseline.dat. This is a large text file which stores information on where to install large chunks of the software.

You need to edit the text file and change the lines which say

DefaultPath=[ProgramFilesFolder]\VC\

...

DefaultPath=[ProgramFilesFolder]\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0

...

DefaultPath=[ProgramFilesFolder]\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE

to the following

DefaultPath=D:\Applications\VS2010\VC\

...

DefaultPath=D:\Applications\VS2010\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0

...

DefaultPath=D:\Applications\VS2010\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE
