AMD 7970 CF or wait for kepler

Thread Starter
Im debating a new GPU setup

And was wondering if it would be better to wait for kepler or just fork the money for 7970 CF with a dinky nvidia card with physx hack(cause even though few games support it, I really like all the added detail)

Also if I go AMD which nvidia card would work best for physx only
And is the physx driver hack reliable

Thanks

If you want physx, I would wait for kepler since it'll be a cleaner build and would perform better than the 7970CF, if you CF kepler too. And at this point it's pretty obvious that kepler will outperform the 7970s, it's the same leapfrogging effect that's been going on for years, but if you want power now, get the 7970s since those are number one on the market atm.

Considering that you have SLI GTX 480s you might as well wait and see how good Kepler actually is (I wouldn't believe a word of those rumors).

If you are going with 2x 7970s, keep one of your card in sig rig as dedicated PhysX. Two 7970s are fast, pair it up with slower card will drag the performance down for PhysX intensive titles. Also, could utilize Nvidia card to fold.

It's reliable.

Well your running two GTX 480's SLI currently. If you were choking to get performance from games I'd say pull the trigger right away and buy the AMD 7970 right now. It's a great card and has shown awesome results, but I know that's not the case for your 1920x1200 resolution monitor.

Kepler is coming in about 6-8 weeks due time. Best option for you is to wait and see what Kepler brings to the table to widen your options. At that time you can re access the GPU situation based on performance between the two and prices. Kepler may bring Tahiti pricing down as a side bonus.

Waiting also will bring some top of the cream non-reference AMD cards to the table as well like MSI AMD 7970 Lightning and Sapphire AMD 7970 Toxic cards to choose from. So even better options if going AMD.

So don't choose door #1 until you've looked inside door #2 would be smartest decision in my opinion.

Having said that....the new AMD 7970's are great cards reference or not. You won't be disappointed one bit as your going to sweet performance that will exceed your expectations especially in crossfire.

Good times as the 28nm fabrication GPU chips took a leap in performance unlike a refresh. smile.gif

Late April according to an interview with the nVidia CEO, though he phrased it oddly. GTX 680 may arrive later though, a slide from way back put it at Nov/Dec 2012.

Exactly, you can't really go wrong either way, but if you want physx I think kepler will be a good choice. I would definitely wait at least.

Alright, i will wait, but if Kepler doesn't perform to my need(which is somewhat insane) I will just hop on the AMD train with the physx mod/hack biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone
