Theoretical performance is typically the best the card can theoretically do. AMD has a fast card. The HD5000 was theoretically faster then the GTX400 series, but we continuously saw poor drivers that made the cards not perform as well. It's obvious.

Maybe the game isn't taking advantage of the extra shaders. Most of the time its game's developer fault and AMd's engineers have to make new driver so the card can properly run the game.
And the 5870 was way faster than the 400 serie redface.gif

Wut?

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/294?vs=309

480 was consistently better than the 5870 in pretty much everything (excluding power consumption, heat and noise redface.gif)

Or on the flip side of the coin. Spend the extra $100 for the 7970 for higher over clocked performance because it goes to '11" and pay the premium.

If my 590 wasn't still cutting through any and every game at the highest of settings like a hot knife through butter, i'd have already scooped up a pair of 7950s...hands down, the 7970 is not worth an $80-100 increase in price, clock-for-clock.

I will of course wait to see how Kepler's performance stacks up, but the 7950s are definitely on my radar for incredible price/performance...though I can't say i'll be needing to step up from a 590 for at least 2 years unless I go to a 2560x1600 res. monitor. tongue.gif

A 120hz would rape a 590. Averaging 60fps ouch....http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-7970-crossfire-review/19 I'd stick to 1080p 60hz.

Yea sorry. I just remember now it is like 7% faster for something like 20% more $$$ and similar power consumption with the 5970 lol

The interesting thing to consider here is how these cards will perform a year from now after the drivers mature

Of course the above statement won't matter to most since the 8xxx series will be out and the 7xxx's will be an afterthought
