I generally turn off HBAO/SSAO and drop to 2x AA and I usually don't drop below 60.

Well when I say max battlefield I didn't really mean hitting the frame rate cap 100% of the time. I just wanted something that wouldn't drop below 40-45fps with 64 players and nukes going off lol. And the 5970 will drop occasionally to the mid to low 20s in the hairiest of sports.

msaa eats it thats why. it kills my fps when i put it on. i have an unlocked 6950 so i basically got a 6970 clocked at 945/1375. with 1920x1080 i run textures on ultra, the rest on high, no msaa, post process aa on low (looks crap on medium or high in my opinion - to blurry), af x16, hbao, vsync (60hz monitor) and a bit of motion blur. my fps stay pretty solidly between 50-60 with occasional drops down to about 40-45fps in certain areas of maps. as long as you can keep the game above 50fps it looks sweet smile.gif

If you are happy with dips into the 40-45 range then a single 7970 could suit you. I have never seen it drop below there running all settings on ultra minus the motion blur. But then again I haven't been in every possible permutation of the game. meaning I haven't stood in every location with hundreds of explosions going off. But in the 6-8 hours I have played with it I never saw it drop below 40-45.

And if you like the metro meat grinders you will probably never see it drop below 60 at max.

It should also get better with age as they update the drivers. I don't know if drivers from AMD will help has much as Nvidia did with Fermi drivers on my old SLI 460's (which were amazing around when i sold them, not so much at first purchase. It can only get better.

Also it is nice to note that in AMD overdrive i was able to move my OC sliders to the max without touching anything else and still stay under 65 degrees after 2 hours of BF3 running the fan at 60%. Which is probably loud for some. My antec 1200 fans are all run at max along with my CPU fan so noise doesn't bother me in the least.

Would crossfire 7970s run on my PSU?

If it was a toughpower xt 775w or a grand power series Id say yes. The TR2 is not a very good line of power supplys.... If you look up phaedrus he has a link in sig to all the different psu manufacturers and whats good/whats not. Im not sure if it was the tr2 series but depending on serial number you might get lucky. Worth a read anyways lots of good info.
