some sites won't load, some not completely, some are fine.

Thread Starter
I've been having an issue for the last two days where some sites won't load. Some don't load properly and some are absolutely fine.

Facebook.com has just begun working properly but dailymail.co.uk won't load at all. bbc.co.uk gets some text but no images, ebay.co.uk / .com won't load and guardian.co.uk won't load.

This is on a laptop (Mint 12) / iPad and sig rig using different browsers.

I've tried ipconfig /flushdns as that's about all I know to do re: networks etc.

Anything I should be doing or contact my ISP?

Thanks,

Mike

Well I can see a problem already, you're trying to run a Windows command on Linux Mint tongue.gif.

Windows:
Code:
ipconfig /flushdns

Linux:
Code:
/etc/init.d/networking restart

Above command restarts networking, assuming you have root access to do so

Also, run either:
Code:
ifconfig

Or:
Code:
/sbin/ifconfig

And paste the contents here

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The same websites don't work with a) my sig rig (win 7) b) the laptop (Mint) and c) an iPad (Safari?). My point was that it's not related to a specific machine i.e. some kind of virus.

My wife's taken the laptop out but, here's the ipconfig output for Win7

the
Code:
/sbin/ifconfig
looks like linux not Windows.

Thanks

Remove 192.1.168.1 from your DNS servers, see if that helps

Well according to your ipconfig, you have 192.168.1.1 as your primary DNS server, so do the following:

Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter > Right click current adapter > Properties > Select Internet Protocol IPv4 > Properties > Use the following DNS servers > Try Google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) > Save

Set it like this, but no difference.

Then you may have 192.168.1.1 set in your router also as a DNS server

I would try a hard reset of your router and modem.Make sure your router and modem are not overheating due to air restrictions. They may be warm but should not be hot.

Failing that try a direct connect to the modem with you laptop and see how it works.

Thanks for all the replies. Just had a text from a friend in the building (I live in an apartment)... they can't access some sites but others are fine. They wanted me to come and sort it for them.

We have the same ISP so I'll call them up.

Thanks for all the help. I have tried resetting the router (there's no modem in the apartment) and it's nice and cool (ish).

Thanks again
