i'm 'this close' to grabbing a asus transformer prime.

I need a mobile companian.

How is this sort of device for a mobile web broswer /youtube player?

I've never had a tablet before (i'm familiar with android enough to use it)

I have $500. was going to get a laptop.. but i couldnt justify something that large..

convice me to or not to get a prime...

As long as you aren't doing a ton of word processing, it sounds like a tablet would do everything you want.

Sounds like a Transformer would be great then. I keep thinking about getting one myself, but just don't like typing on a flat touch keypad, so just keep sticking with netbooks/laptops.

Just don't forget about having to shell out the extra cash for the dock too for USB functionality! thumb.gif

i love my prime, does everthing i have asked.
i have the hdmi cable hooked to the 50" plasma and surf, watch youtube, stream netflix....
there is this-Tablet USB 2.0 Kit for usb, if you dont want the dock.
the dock, which i dont have yet, is a plus if you ask me, extra battery, usb port, keyboard...

just my thoughts.

Keep an eye on this site: http://www.nowinstock.net/computers/tablets/asus/transformerprime/

Atm, it doesn't look like there are any available from those retailers. If you have a Micro Center near you, you can check on their site for them and ask when they'll get more on their facebook page. That's what I did, and was able to pick one up from them. They had a special going for $50 off all tablets making the Prime $449 (plus tax).

I think it's a great tablet and I LOVE mine. Unfortunately, it seems that there is a chance that you could end up with one of many "problems" (though most aren't too major). I'd check out the xda developers forum and go to the Prime section and read up there. They have a thread all about all the little problems you may encounter with the Prime. I was lucky that I haven't had any problem other than weak wifi/gps (which seems quite common), but it was easily fixed with a little pinch.

It is definitely very fast, and comparing the original Transformer to the Prime (gf has tf101), it's a night and day difference. Don't expect anything instant like a powerful laptop, but for something so small, it's amazingly quick. If it's at all possible, I'd go somewhere that has them on display so that you can play around with it and see if it's something you'd like before you drop the cash on it, if you're unsure. The things you can do with this piece of tech is quite amazing really. At least to me it is. smile.gif

Here's the thread about the possible problems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444084

And you can read through that general section for some VERY useful info about the Prime.
