Started looking around to see if there were any places I could save some cash and upgrade to the 7970.

Different Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233
$40 less plus free shipping. Saves $60, $70 savings after rebate.

Different PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018
$45 savings, $75 after rebate.

$145 savings after rebates. This frees up enough cash to go with a 7970, tigerdirect has an XFX 7970 Black Edition available for $599.

I'm about to finalize everything and start purchasing. Any comments or suggestions on these two replacements? Will the 700W PSU work for crossfire down the road?

Upgrade the PSU, go with a 7950 and overclock it (almost matches 7970), saving you $100+ thumb.gif

OK, build is final, besides the video card which I'm buying tomorrow (payday), and hoping some other options come in stock.

A few changes:

Newegg had an awesome price on the Cooler Master HAF 922 case, 79.99 with free shipping. Switched from an Asus MB to an ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen 3 LGA 1155 board, heard nothing but great things about 'em and they're at a great price. I went with a OCZ 700W PSU, I might regret it but I figure by the time it's worth it to Crossfire it'll just be about time for a new rig, so meh. I switched to a 64GB SSD instead of 128GB, should be sufficient. I decided to take the plunge and get a water cooling kit, the Antec Kuhler H2O 620 Liquid Cooling System.

For your final review:

SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-222AB - OEM

COOLER MASTER HAF 922 BLUE RC-922M-KWN2-GP Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Side window

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandybridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000

Antec Kuhler H2O 620 Liquid Cooling System

Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Last thing needed is a video card, my budget stands at $916.78, a 7950 puts me around $1400, 7970 around $1500. Got everything in the cart, ready to hit submit. Video Card tomorrow. Any last suggestions or comments? Will wait an hour or so before checkout.

That all looks good thumb.gif

Only thing I would change is not getting that Antec Kuhler. All-in-ones are pretty useless IMO (again, IMO). I'd just get a 212+ or Noctua and probably be the same performance or better. Save up for real liquid one day thumb.gif

Get the 7950 (Sapphire OC Edition if they have it). That one outpaces a 580 and almost catches the 7970 thumb.gif

Yeah it does look like the performance:dollar ratio is much better with 212+, gonna switch that out. It's a pain finding any of the 7900 series in stock, one day it's there, the next, gone. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

The only problem with the mobo is that according to Newegg it is wired for x16, x4. If you really plan on running x-fire try to select one that will run at x8,x8.

Good choice thumb.gif

Newegg usually has consistent stock. You can get just about any of them and they all overclock ridiculously well (on air biggrin.gif )

2 x PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots (PCIE2/PCIE4: single at x16 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE4) or dual at x8 (PCIE2) / x8 (PCIE4))

I vote 7970. Yes, the 7950 can be overclocked to a stock 7970 for $100. However once you start overclocking the 7970 its rediculous. Trust me. My neighbor has a 7950 and I went with the 7970. He tells me every day he regrets not getting the 7970.
