something like these maybe

The cheapest 14900's I could find are these guys - good price and good reviews. However, I'm afraid the heat spreaders may be too high to clear the Hyper 212+'s fan. I know from experience that the the Ripjaws cannot clear the Hyper 212+.

How bad of a bottleneck would DDR3-1600 be for overclocking the FX-4100 on air only?

Great cooler for air cooling! the build looks pretty good for the ~$600 range and it will definitely be an upgrade. Like mrinnocent said tho it will be a noticeable improvement if you can afford the faster ram or even 8gb of ram would definitely be better. If you wanted you could go with some gskill 1600 for ~$26 right now on newegg and if you get the single dimm then you could add the second one when you have the money.

I'm quite happy with a mid-4's OC... 4.5 is probably where I'm aiming. Will the Hyper 212+ hold up?

more so in the fx series cpu's they love higher frequency ram to really perform to their potential....i like your find on the ram thumb.gif

It might be enough but when it hits 110F outside during July, August, and September it will be pushing it quite a bit. You can probably just use a different OC profile during the summer and have the window open during the winter. smile.gif Are you at UT by chance?
