FX 8150 AMD overheating an issue? - Page 2

Could've sworn I posted this earlier... Must've forgot to hit submit or something xD

Some of the comments on the Sunbeamtech Core-Contact Freezer 120 say that it may get in the way of the ram. Do you think that cooler will fit on the Gigabyte 990FX UD3 board without blocking any of the ram slots? I have all four ram slots filled, with a set of the G Skill Ripsaw series Z, 16 GB (4x4) ram.

Haven't really looked at the rules of the forum lol. Shame on me, but is it ok to post newegg links? Everyone is posting just names, so am I just incase.

On the UD3 youll want to keep socket temps under 65C.
You can do this by sticking a fan blowing on the back of the socket that dropped my temp on my one 6C so the core and socket are now with in 4-5C of each other.

Core temp at idle is useless since core temp is only valid under full load.
You should really get a better cooler, Those pre-build water coolers from Antec and Cosair are really good on these chips.
Iv got a Antec 920 on mine and can get 4.75ghz while staying within safe temps and can do 5ghz runs at night.
But a Antec 620 with decent fans in push/pull and a lapp performs with in 2-3C of the 920.

Personally I would go with a heavy duty air cooler or Corsair or Antec liquid coolers. Air coolers really don't do all that well it seems.

Water cooling systems are to expensive for me. It also just doesn't seem necessary. Specially since I am not overclocking or nothing.

If it makes you feel any better, my H60 with my ambients makes anything over 4.5GHz impossible for me. They respond to voltage increases with ridiculous amounts of heat thats hard to control unless you have great cooling and great ambient temps. Or if you're real lucky and get a good chip.

Even 4.5GHz is unusable if I test with prime. Temps top out at 80c on the cores and would probably go higher if workers didnt start failing at that point
