Need help with upgrades! - 01-21-2012, 05:58 | posts: 7 | Location: Pennsylvania
Hey guys im looking for help on some new upgrades and would love some input from some guru's!
--Current Rig--
1)BioStar H55A+ Ver.6.1 1156 skt.
2)EVGA GTS-450-SC card
3)3x1GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Dual Channel Ram 1333Mhz OC'ed
4)Core i5 650 dual core cpu 3.2Ghz OC'ed 4.8Ghz
5)Corsair H-50 Liquid cpu cooler
6)4x320GB Seagate Barracuda HDD's only using one at the moment till upgrade
7)OCZ ModXStream Pro 700 Watt 80 plus certified PSU
8)ASUS 24x DVD-r/rw combo drive

I wanted to get a better motherboard and try to maybe keep my core i5 650 or get a mobo+cpu bundle if its a quad core/core i5 cpu i wanted to definitley upgrade the graphics card as well and maybe a cheap but nice sata hdd like a 500Gb or a 1Tb hard drive and if anyone can find a nice pair of cheap ram sticks with heatspreaders on them like 1666mhz 4gb ones that would be cool like 4x1gb sticks or 2x2gb sticks of 1666mhz dual channel ddr3 ram would be nice and a cheap case that has the spot for the psu on the bottom and it has to have vents on the top of the case where you could put 2x120mm fans or bigger and i wanted to upgrade my cooler also from the Corsair H-50 to the Corsair H-100 and i was thinking of putting that cooler up top of the pc case where the 2 fans would go and i would have it in the case of course but i would have 2 top fans on the top outside of the pc case for push/pull effect but i definiteley am getting the H-100 Cooler thats a def. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

$$$PRICE RANGE$$$
i would love to keep it around $600-$800 my max which i dont want to hit would be $1,000 and i almost forgot if the only way you can get me a quad core cheap core i5 and you would have to get a different socket like the 1155 one then i will take that also im open to anything just want to get more bang for my buck $$$ atleast a $200-$250/$275 on the graphics card or 2 nice cheap ones in sli mode like 2 cheap 550Ti's in sli as long as it would be a better deal then one graphics card unless that one graphics card would beat the 2-550's in sli i would go for the one card solution then and i will just use my GTS-450 for physics! And i will take a Radeon Cards also if they have any good cheap 7900 series one's like if there's one for $250 or $275 like a 7970 or 7990 lol!! or a 6990 if those are cheaper and can get 2 in crossfire!!! Any and all suggestions would be great im open for anything here!! DX11 for the graphics though guys! lets see some creativity with what you guys can do i love newegg and tigerdirect im also open to new vendors as well as long as there trust worthy and U.S. based.

Almost forgot also a cheap 20 or 22 inch lcd or led monitor with dvi port on it! But can do with out the monitor if need be. Thanx Guys!!

Honestly.... Don't go for a 100 when you are trying to stay within a budget... It will hardly do any better than a NH-D 14 would.
Here is what I would do if I were you:
207
Either keep the H50 or sell all of you current components that you will be replacing and get the H100 if you want it that badly.
The next upgrade I would do ontop of the list I just have you though, would be a SSD. You can get a M4 for 100 bucks these days, load the OS and 2 of your favorite games on there and watch them fly.

I don't think an H100 cooler is appropriate for a build in this budget range. You even chose a CPU that you can't overclock, making the H100 a big waste of money.

Honestly, here's what I recommend.

324

You won't be disappointed if you can manage to eek out the $970 budget. If you wanna trim that build down, A) go for an i5 2400 or i3 2120, or B) scale down the case to a HAF 912.
