Get a 7970 or wait for Kepler?

Thread Starter
I have the money, just wanted to know. Should I go ahead and buy a 7970 or wait until Kepler. Is Kepler looking promising? I just want to replace these 6870s because I am tired of the issues that come with Crossfire...

i would get a less expensive 7950 and overclock it. save at least $100 and uses less power.

Same 6870s crossfire issues here on the AMD side, the annoying microstuttering and same driver issues as always!. Got a 7970 and it was way better from my last config. The scores maybe are a little different but close to the 6870s, but in games you can notice the diference, its really enjoyable, I only regreat of the price, but I dont care I wanted to play SMOOTH as butter and this 7970 made it all possible with high fps on all dx11 new titles.

Yea, that is my goal. I want to be able to play games without issues.... My thing is I don't want to pay over $550 then it turns out a month later the Nvidia card is better for the same price lol.

It's impossible for any of us to tell you whether Kepler will be a better choice than HD7900 right now, but if I were you I'd probably wait. If anything, prices will be more competitive once Kepler's out.

But if the microstuttering is really bothering you then the 7950 isn't a bad choice at all.

Hold on to what you have and wait another 3 months if it bothers you that much.
There will always be something better around the corner...
Besides, I don't think Kepler will be crazy faster than the 7970.
Probably around 20 percent, who knows?

I'd say get the MSI 7950 Overclock because it has solid capacitors, then slap an Arctic Cooling Xtreme 7970 on to it and you'll be flying thumb.gif

Think I'd just buy the 7970, Kepler I don't think will be out for a while, and like someone else said, there's always something better around the corner. I personally don't think Kepler will be a great deal faster either, I can see the 680GTX beating the 7970 no problem and the 670 competing with the 7970 and the 660 be around 7950 levels. Then AMDs 8000K seris will arrive and beat kepler, then Maxwell will beat 8K seris, it will go on and on.

Buy now and enjoy your games, 7970 is fast and OC's so easily.

20% is pretty significant. Kepler will probably be faster, but, I don't see it being more than 10 - 15% faster.
