Get a 7970 or wait for Kepler? - Page 2

IMO, you should just wait and see what happens with keplar.

You have the pleasure of having two good cards right now to keep you company in the meantime. If you cards that were 4 generations old on the other hand, might be worth upgrading now. But getting a 7970 now may be disappointing later on if kepler is a better value especially when you have the luxury of waiting.

Don't wait. By the time Keplar comes out, then another guy is going to say wait a few months for the next best thing.

A single 7970 is a beast of a card and you should enjoy it today.

I think I am even more indecisive now lol. 1/3 are saying get 7950, 1/3 saying go for it, 1/3 are saying wait! lol. I am leaning toward going for it. It would resolve my CFX issues and would reduce power consumption.

You have no idea how long you'll be waiting. You have no idea what the performance level of Kepler will be. You have no idea what Nvidia will be charging for any of the cards. It sounds like a pretty simple decision to me. Also, it may turn out that 8xxx is launched as close to Kepler as Kepler is launched to 7xxx, so when will you ever stop waiting? biggrin.gif

This:

If Kepler is indeed releasing in February (like some sites have stated) 1. I doubt it's going to be much faster than the 7970 else they'd be waiting for a while. 2. No one knows the performance yet and 3. If it was launching this soon and there was an idea of some performance, something would be leak already and there isn't anything.

I'd jump for the 7970 now and forget waiting. If you have buyers remorse and Kepler comes out 10 days after you bought the card and awww at the performance, return your card and upgrade or sell it for most of what you paid for it thumb.gif

Ok, I think I am gonna get one. Might wait until Newegg gets more ASUS cards in stock. All they have are MSI and HIS. I might just buy the MSI card...

This. If you want a graphic card now a 7950 is the best option if you want a 7000 series card. The 7950 is very very close to the 7970. Flash a 7950 with a 7970 bios and you'll be able to OC to the same speeds, and then the difference will literally be 2-5 FPS.

I agree it's pretty significant... There are people who criticize the 7970 for being 20% faster than the GTX 580 on average.
They think it isn't enough. wink.gif
My 20% estimation for Kepler over Tahiti is best case scenario in my opinion. wink.gif
Time will tell and I wish luck to both companies.
