2500k's shouldn't be reccomended for gaming anymore - Page 23

when i see the topic "2500k should not be recommended for gaming anymore"
now on page 22 it has become "2600k with HT performs way better than a 2500k in Battlefield 3 using multi gpus full stop and bottom line."

Honestly after playing BF3 (ultra except shadows on high) on my sig rig ( AMD B55/ GTX 570) since October I doubt there is any noticible difference between my set up and a 2500k/2600k set up. I'm talking in a strictly gaming scenario. Unless you're watching benchmarks I would venture to say you could sit down in front of 2 systems with all the same parts and comparable CPUs to play BF3 and you couldn't tell which PC had an AMD quad/Intel 2500k/or 2600k. I've played it on a friends setup who has a 2500k and honestly in a strictly gaming sense I couldn't tell any difference.

I feel like too many people try to act like they are superior based on their choice of computer parts.Which is another thread all on its own. It reminds me of the Fight Club quote:
You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. It should add "You're not the parts you choose for your PC build" lol I'm ordering parts for a 2500k build in 2 days though and am not a fanboy of any company. Its just time for a new build and the 2500k is a fine CPU. This thread is pointless.

To what EVILNOK said

I agree. Currently I'm using a Q9550 E0 revision. I don't see any reason changing this processor. I even believe running a 6950 or a 560TI would work smoothly I'd just overclock higher and I'm ready to go. It would be suggested unless a person is building a new PC then it would be fine. Obviously if you are buying a new PC you won't go for 775 build. But then again there are many builds that would perform good even its not a 2500K processor this is where AMD is doing their job. Less price cost, better power consumption and good performance. Everything well balanced.

There aren't many games that benifit from HT and without it the 2500K/2600K/2700K all have negligible differences. In no way should something that costs roughly $100 more be recommended for gaming at this point in time when there would be almost no difference in most games.

Look at the graph in the OP.....
Proof? Goto the 7900 series thread and see the members that sold their 2500k's for 26/2700k's.
One member got an extra 20FPS average from buying & upgrading from the 2500k to it's HT big brother
I did some tests myself.... and the only games that benefited from HT were BF3 and Metro2033
Crysis 2, MW3, Far Cry 2 and Source games yielded no difference.
I got an infraction from a mod on this thread because apparently i was trolling...... but really it was because i was giving it to the butthurt 2500k owners for being in denial and not appreciating RAW information.
If your emotionally affected by this information then i suggest you pursue to discover a new meaning to life thumb.gif
Bottom line, the tests i performed and those in the OP are both with multi gpu setups. Keep that in mind.

I DO find this hard to accept. Clearly we need more data. The graph in OP shows better GPU utilization (which even the graphs creator said was not performed in any sort of controlled manner) - I need to see FPS data bearing out that this increased GPU utilization means better performance ... like increased FPS. It could be simply be some driver based bug that HT causes near 100% GPU utilization with no benefit, now that would be extremely BAD and then the conclusion would be the exact opposite of yours. Even in this thread- I see some 2600k users stating they get better BF3 performance with HT off. Hence the repeated requests for additional proof. You MAY be right. You can call i5-2500K users 'butthurt' all day and night, but it's not helping make your case.

I still dont see any evidence. Show me 2600K get more fps then 2500K.

Op:the ht vs not ht issue might be more related to the gpu. Let me explain my Thoth.if the Cpu cant do a task who will do.probably the gpu.ht help in some situation but like tomhardware show this month. Optimising software for opencl will often net better result as arcsoft various opencl solution are showing.so i bet ht has little say in performance gain and the gpu has bigger say.most gpu aren't breaking a sweat contrary to popular belief. The throttling trouble would be the link between Cpu and gpu(yep again)this why a lot are going opencl route for media related stuff.like Athene.towellie.swiftly.pokket etc should defenetly use the fairly new opencl tool aimed specificly to eleviate or lower performance issue in various mmo when you start to plan live event .if i am right 2500 or 2600 wouldnt be much diff.ht didn't move permance in the past even tho stuff was optimse for it so ye the gpu os probably the culprit but we just don't know how.might be worth testing, but if be if i am right i bet Intel wont be happy lol
