I'm probably gonna be upgrading next year as it is.

A really important factor is your resolution. If you are running at 1080p or greater, I really suggest a 6950 2GB. If you are going to be upgrading next year, the 6950 will probably retain it's value better as well, or you can just Crossfire that. The 6950, with its unlock-ability, is the best value graphics card out there, IMHO. Sell the 6870 for ~$120 when you get it back, so your 6950 really only costs $130. Boom!thumb.gif

Using system RAM as VRAM will kill your performance. There is a reason the latest cards use GDDR5. It's much, much faster than desktop DDR3. I'm not saying the 6870 is a bad choice for 1080p, but a 6950 2GB will be a lot more futureproof.

keep in mind that you also need a good amout of ram for a crossfire setup to function normaly. I recommend 8GB+
Falling to do so, you may have micro stuttering issues

Also, to avoid microstuttering, 6950s are best than 6870s :

1 British pound sterling = 1.5805 US dollars. As, Aznofazns said, planning on using a paging file is not a great idea. I know that I have to use a 2GB paging file even with my 6950, when I'm playing Battlefield on Ultra, or I get VRAM errors. Either way, you will enjoy yourself!thumb.gif

Now, since your going the 6870 rout, the article Neojack posted really makes it seem like TRIfire 6870 makes for a really nice setup. In addition, your motherboard seems like it would handle that very well.

(Sorry if I sound like a pedantic douche, I'm just easily excitable in the morning.)
