Sleeving Question, Paracord or MDPC-X?

Thread Starter
I'm getting ready to get all my materials for sleeving my PC - but for too long I've been wondering whether to go paracord or MDPC-X.
The question is less of the cost... I do see that MDPC-X is 3 times more expensive, but I bought a FTW-PC Sleeving Sample with both (the older) FTW-sleeve and Paracord... and I really didn't like the "feel" of the FTW-sleeve. Is MDPC-X sleeving made out of similar material to the FTW-sleeve?

Right now I'm leaning towards sleeving with paracord... any problems I might run into besides constant snagging while doing the sleeving itself? I've heard rumors that paracord likes to slip off heatshrink, so a longer piece of heatshrink is needed, is this true?
Has anyone here sleeved with both materials, what are your opinions?

I will be using MDPC-X 4-to-1 heatshrink.

I'm going the paracord route, just because it's cheap and if I ever want to change colors it won't be so pricey.
You can apparently do paracord without shrink, but if you want to use shrink this thread also has a great idea for an anti-tangle tool for paracord sleeving.

MDPC is prettier than paracord but paracord is cheaper with more colors.

Amazing. Thank you very much.
I once saw this on OCN but the douchebag that showed it didn't tell anyone else how to do it on purpose.

If you're going to spend money (and a lot of time) on aesthetics in the first place, you'd might as well go for the better looking option. Paracord doesn't look terrible, but it has a very "rubbery" look to it. Even just a glance makes it really obvious that it's not "proper" sleeving. To me, it looks like a bundle of floppy noodles sitting in your case.

By the way, my MDPC-X kit cost me a little under $100 shipped to the US. It's definitely worth the cost if you care about aesthetics. The braiding quality is second to none.

Just my opinion. biggrin.gif

MDPC sleeve is dense and stays in shape, the quality is amazing. I can't say it's anything like the FTW sleeving you tried, but to me MDPC feels nice: firm but plyable. I hate the look of paracord, it's like putting shoelaces in your PC and it catches on everything. But I can understand other people might think that the cloth look is nice. I can't decide for you, of course.
